Bidens host wounded troops
Source: wash. post

Twelve wounded troops from Afghanistan and Iraq, several missing both their legs, were clustered Monday around two long tables at the vice president’s home.

Joe and Jill Biden’s third annual holiday meal for injured military personnel fell on an especially poisonous day of partisan finger-pointing in Washington. A special congressional “supercommittee” admitted that it had failed to cut the deficit by $1.2 trillion.

Vice President Biden did not mention the committee’s collapse. He barely acknowledged the war in Afghanistan or the controversial mission in Iraq, which is drawing to a close next month.

Instead, he spoke briefly about what he said was the country’s most sacred duty.

1. I'll tell you one thing, when those wounded left the Bidens' house,
there was no doubt in any of their minds that Joe cares passionately about our service men and women.

I've posted about a clip that was available when he was still running for Prez, and he was speaking to medical personnel at a military facility (I think). No matter how many times I watched it my eyes would fill with tears, I'd stop breathing and be on the edge of my chair. He wasn't delivering a speech - he was speaking from his heart and he just cared SO DAMN MUCH. He was IRATE at how the vets were being treated.

I know he has his detractors, but if you saw him on this subject, you'd be convinced, too.

I hope those men and women had a wonderful time -- I bet Joe's a great host! :patriot:

6. Can you
repost it or PM it to me? I've never seen that clip and I love hearing VP Joe speak.

7. Unfortunately, no. When he became part of the Obama ticket
the spots disappeared, which is understandable I guess but IMO, what a loss! I think about that one often (it obviously made an impression on me!). The absolute GOODNESS and sincere commitment to our armed forces was moving.

A reminder that he fought like hell to get funding for MWRAP vehicles in Iraq to better protect the servicemen and women from roadside bombs. He finally got it passed, but they never moved on it. :(

I also think that his approach to working out a resolution in Iraq would have worked. Lots of opportunities missed.

:hi:

9. What a pity
Oh well, maybe I'll get lucky and get to see it somehow, someday. Thanks anyway. :)

4. My sense of Joe Biden is that he is a good person.
I wish Obama had followed his advice in Afghanistan.

8. Agree. I also posted I think his approach to a resolution would
have worked, too. He has a good understanding of foreign policy and Obama should have listened to him rather than to The Generals. :(
