Focus: Hope ending workforce training programs

Detroit— Workforce training programs at Focus: Hope — which has helped to put an estimated 11,000 people to work over 30 years — will be shut down starting next week.

The announcement comes with the historic advocacy agency facing uncertainty over federal funding that makes up the bulk of its training budget. Congressional leaders have stalled in their attempts to hammer out a budget and that means funding for the Workforce Investment Act is no sure thing, officials say.

As a result, its four training programs will be discontinued after the holiday weekend.

"We're suspending those operations for the time being," said Kathy Moran, Focus: Hope's manager of communications on Tuesday. "We hope we'll be able to reactivate them as soon as possible."
