Inconsistencies found in protestor 'miscarriage'
Source: KIRO-FM

A woman who told police she was three months pregnant after she was pepper sprayed at an Occupy Seattle march this month, told police she was three months pregnant in September when facing arrest.

(clip)
KIRO Radio first obtained the police report from Sept. 22, 2011. Seattle police had responded to a vacant building located in 1250 Denny Way where a security officer reported five squatters. One of those people, according to police sources, was 19-year-old Jennifer Fox.

(clip)
According to the report, Fox told an officer she was three months pregnant and began crying when arrested. "(Fox) began holding her stomach and was screaming when she was arrested," read the report. (Fox) was treated at the scene and transported to HMC."

(clip)
Fox's former foster mother, Lark Stebbins, told the Seattle Times Fox is a "compulsive liar" and a "wannabe drama queen."

I am continuing to look for more info on this story. Even the original article/link posted before says that it is "increasingly dubious".

http://slog.thestranger.com/slog/archives/2011/11/21/pregant-woman-blasted-with-pepper-spray-by-spd-reportedly-miscarries
While sources in general should be given the benefit of the doubt—even if they are homeless women—and there is no evidence that Fox isn't being entirety forthright, her story looks increasingly dubious.

It's worth pointing out that in the Seattlepi.com article last week, the reporter noted that Fox was two months pregnant, when she told me that she was three months pregnant at the time.

UPDATE on Nov. 22 at 4:18 PM: Acting on an anonymous tip, we heard that Seattle police found Fox in a house six nearly nine weeks ago. According to a police report in which the names have been redacted, a suspect who appears to have a three-letter last name "said she is three months pregnant... and began crying when was arrested. began holding her stomach and screaming that it hurt." The woman was transferred to Harborview Medical Center. We are attempting to contact Fox to ask if she is the woman in the police report.

3. Seattle Times article...Occupy protester's miscarriage claim questioned
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2016829484_occupybaby23m.html
A Seattle teenager's claim that abuse by Seattle police caused her miscarriage has become a viral Internet sensation of the Occupy Wall Street movement, but no evidence has emerged to support her allegation.
(clip)

She said she learned the sex of her fetus about 10 weeks into her pregnancy via an ultrasound test, although gender is typically not detected via ultrasound until the 16th week of pregnancy. She said the baby's father is in jail.

In September, Fox told police she was three months pregnant when officers confronted her and five others on a criminal trespass complaint at a Seattle City Light facility, according to a police report obtained by KIRO FM. The report described Fox as crying and clutching her stomach at the scene before being transported to Harborview.

(clip)

In an interview with The Seattle Times, Fox said Harborview medical staff, whom she could not name, described the fetus as healthy during treatment after the Tuesday protest.

16. let me see... a woman in distress, perhaps having emotional
problems brings out the eye rolls. My goodness, the milk of human kindness just makes me get feeble all over. No one knows anything definitive yet and of course police would say this. I belonged to the teaching profession for centuries it seemed and they are the same way, close ranks and even lie. Until the true facts come out no one can say one way or the other.

And Miracle would be a glorious name for a child.

Oh, and Happy Holidays to all of you.

Do I need to put a smilie thingy here?

21. You miss the point. A woman in distress manipulating others by claiming
she was pregnant and miscarried because of police abuse (abuse we all condemn), that is the problem. "Of course the police would say this", would acknowledge that she claimed, 2 months ago, that she was 3 months pregnant?

As you and I have written, until the true facts come out, no one can say one way or the other.

So here's a question for you. If that statement (copied from you) is true, why are so many people assuming that "of course police would say this...close ranks and even lie"? (also copied from you)

6. This is pure slime
The second article even admits there is no evidence she is lying, but they demand her medical records and smear her. While I certainly would condemn it if this woman did lie about this, there is no evidence at this point that she did lie it looks more like a right-wing smear job. Why the hell should this woman have an obligation to provide medical records of her miscarriage to some right-wing smear merchant? These articles provide no proof that she lied, don't buy into sensational press stories that are presented without real evidence to back them up.

This sentence in the second article shows just how crappy this so-called journalism is:

"While sources in general should be given the benefit of the doubt—even if they are homeless women—and there is no evidence that Fox isn't being entirety forthright, her story looks increasingly dubious."

There is more than one reason that sentence is just so terribly wrong, anyone who would write something that is so wrong on multiple levels is clearly not a credible source.

9. "don't buy into sensational press stories that are presented without real evidence to back them up"
Exactly!

"don't buy into sensational press stories that are presented without real evidence to back them up"

This is why I am searching for more information. Since there is no real evidence to back up her 3 month pregnancy claim, and she also claimed that 2 months ago, I am looking for information to back up the sensationalistic "police made me miscarry" story.

I do hope you posted "don't buy into sensational press stories that are presented without real evidence to back them up" on the other links about this.

20. why do you care so much that you are investigating this "sensational" story?
A very troubled young woman may have lied about being pregnant. That probably happens as frequently as dirty needles are found in city parks and as frequently as sexual assaults in large unsupervised crowds camping out. It is virtually meaningless and I am a bit troubled by your urge to expose this young woman and have us point fingers at her.

Just like backwards sleaze girl. What a blast from the past and good example of why we should take unverifiable stories and anecdotes with a grain of salt. There is no proof she was pregnant. There is no proof she wasn't pregnant. There is no proof. PERIOD. So why make an opinion and emotions about something there is no proof about, either for or against.

We have plenty of proven true cases of unprovoked police brutality without having to scrape the bottom of the barrel for examples.

15. Thats not the point here.
The point is, about this whole post, is that there is no evidence to back up her claim, and perhaps circumstantial evidence against her. Don't use a red herring response to try to hide information that may make us look like less of fools if it turns out she is a breitbart.

All lies told by anything even somewhat affiliated with OWS will be blown up tenfold by the media, the same media who minimizes every right wing shitheads lie. We are not afforded the luxury of a pocketed media. So we have to be a million times more true and consistent to even before to win people over. As shitty as it is, it is true. It is reality and we must adapt accordingly.

32. was looking for more facts on this
Story and ran into a hitpiece on a right wing hate blog called "the gateway pundit". The OP started out blaming the victim, then the pig people chimed in with their hate filled venom, "great, that's one less libtard in the world" and much worse. The bottom line is THIS GIRL WAS PREGNANT, WAS MACED AND BEATEN, AND WAS TAKEN TO A HOSPITAL WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED SHE WAS PREGNANT. Her "loving" ex foster "Mom" described her as a "compulsive liar and wannabe drama queen". Sounds like someone with a creative streak who had to put up some serious defences to deal with whatever her life was. Under better circumstances, someone who would fit right in on DU. I hope that whereever Ms. Fox is, she is surrounded by people who love her to insulate her from the kind of hateful crap that has for too long been part of her life. And Ihope justice will be served for all victims everywhere.

That the girl was taken to the hospital by ambulance, was given a sonogram, and was told at THAT TIME that the baby was ok, items that were somehow left out of this op. And I can tell you from what I've seen on the other sides blogs, they are going apeshit trying to discredit this story. Personally, what I DO know is she was maced and knocked around. 39. Does it matter if she was pregnant or not? She could have been
as many other females could have been. If in fact she told the police she was and they proceeded to kick and spray her, she or anyone could have aborted. I am not one of those who would call a fetus a baby, it was a potential baby. Whatever the case was, nobody wants to go through a aborted pregnancy like this. I use the term abort on purpose, that is what a "miscarriage" is.

But, like the Backwards B Girl, if she lied, this has stirred up a lot of emotions. IF she lied, I feel very sorry for her and for anyone who gets the fallback on this. Rather like someone who got raped back in the 40's (picking a date out of the air) in MS claiming it was a black man vs the white man it was.

49. And Since When
...do police departments release "redacted" police reports through an "anonymous source" to refute a civil rights abuse claim? This is EXACTLY the kind of crap COINTELPRO pulled in the 60s and 70s. Most of what COINTELPRO used to do was outlawed by congress, though the "Patriot Act" got rid of some of those protections. How do they get around the law? By PRIVATIZING COINTELPRO, which is now the agency that coordinated the cnational conference call of police chiefs that led to the OWS crackdown. Basicallly a private corporate intelligence service, making sure the police do their bidding and not the bidding of those who they are supposed to serve and protect.

- Appears the pepper spray was accurate as we see her being treated for something in the ambulance but the rest of her story is falling apart due to her own conflicting statements and lack of evidence to support her claims. She obviously has some serious issues, hope that she will be able to find some type of help to get her life back on track.
