SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea said Monday it expected six-country talks over its nuclear arms program to be held soon in Beijing and would show whether Washington was prepared to change its attitude toward the communist state.
"Six-party talks for a solution to the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S. will be held in Beijing soon thanks to the former's initiative and peaceful efforts," said a statement issued by a spokesman for North Korea's Foreign Ministry.
"As the multilateral talks are slated to take place as called for by the U.S. side so far, the forthcoming talks will clearly show the world community whether the U.S. has a true willingness to make a switchover in its policy toward the DPRK or not," said the statement, carried on the North's official KCNA news agency.

The North Korean spokesman said a U.S. policy change away from what Pyongyang views as hostility to its communist government was essential for resolving the nuclear crisis.
