Mayor's office says Occupy L.A. encampment will end next week
November 23, 2011 | 5:48 pm

An aide to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa office has confirmed that Occupy L.A. protesters will have to leave their City Hall encampment by next week, saying the city wants to begin repairing the 1.7-acre park.

“Today, we informed members of Occupy L.A. that City Hall park shall be closed for rehabilitation at some point next week,” said Deputy Chief of Staff Matt Szabo.

He would not say exactly when the park would be closed or how much warning protesters would be given.

“We informed them that they would receive ample notice,” he said, explaining that the pledge was made to several representatives at a meeting Wednesday.

From what I can tell from the pictures - the grass is dead and will not be coming back.

1. The denial of the right of assembly. I'm glad truth is coming out publicly...
and in a way everyone can see how low this country has sunk, that Constitutional rights are being denied.

5. Are FEMA camps real? It's getting so bizarre anymore that things I used to
think were impossible are now happening as this progresses. Sometimes I wonder what's next.

7. I'm thinking that maybe all this crap has been here all along and we just didn't notice?

8. Could be ... also was maybe easier to hide in the past. Now the Internet makes
so much public knowledge that never would have been known before. Yeah, different names too.

This one os a real piece of shit. it's WORSE than the others-it will close this site U-tube etc...sorry-can't link..
It will effectively quash our ability to share information. Its purpose is to kill any movement that threatens their power.

Another big FU from our elected officials. It will be presented for a vote on Dec. 5th.

One of the reps does intend to filibuster it by reading off the names of everyone that signs a petition to oppose it.
The petition is online, if someonecould link it and post the info, that would be great.

18. I sent the petition and then I was thinking later, since when does congress give
a F what the citizens want. Most of them are sponsored and bribed by the corporate elite, they could care less (many of them) about "we the people." They live off in their own world.

16. Yep. I think a difference is that Reagan ushered in the era of blatant RW destruction...
and propaganda. Some Democrats (something that makes me seethe with anger), thought Reagan was simply delightful, ignored the destruction and the anti-people laws Reagan's administration began to implement at breakneck speed, and jumped right on board with the Reagan administration bs and propaganda. :(

19. Yep! Pre-Reagan and (Reagan / post-Reagan) democrats are totally different IMO. Some
of the democrats here (where I live) sound more RW than the Tea Baggers, yet they call themselves democrats. Pre-Reagan, many would have been considered RW republicans.

14. Reasonable Time, Place and Manner restrictions
are constitutional.

Your option is to repeal the 1st amendment and submit your own, good luck with that.

2. I hope the police have explicit orders for peaceful, humane removal methods.
And even if there is no physical abuse, the city better lawyer up.

9. I'm sure the grass is also dead in the park areas around the Civil Courthouse and some of the other
public buildings due to construction by private corporations.

So, the damage to the grass only causes the city to evict protestors, not construction companies.

11. Sorry mayor, you just don't get it.
Or maybe you do. But it won't end next week. It won't end at all.

- The only one's for whom this will end, are the people who can't read the handwriting on the wall......

15. The biggest mistake Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will ever make in his lifetime.
Party at the LA shipyards, 12/12/11. All are invited! Bring a friend!

Or 3.

See y'all there. No RSVP.

22. Question
Edited on Fri Nov-25-11 05:04 AM by MFrohike
Why the hell is there grass in an area that is a desert by definition? Seriously, I don't find dead grass in a city that averages 8 inches of rainfall a year to be terribly newsworthy.

Edit: Apparently I am way off on the rainfall. It seems to be 15 inches, averaged over 130 years, in downtown LA. I still wonder why they're focused on grass with so little rainfall.
