Climate change: vulnerable countries consider 'occupying' Durban talks

Diplomats from some developing countries may "occupy" the UN climate negotiations that begin on Monday in Durban by staging sit-ins and boycotts over the lack of urgency in the talks.

The move follows a call by the former president of Costa Rica for vulnerable countries to refuse to leave the talks until "substantial" progress has been made.

"I have called on all vulnerable countries to 'occupy' Durban. We need an expression of solidarity by the delegations of those countries that are most affected by climate change, who go from one meeting to the next without getting responses on the issues that need to be dealt with," said José María Figueres.

"We went to Copenhagen with the illusion we could reach an equitable agreement. We went to Cancún where we saw slight but not sufficient progress. Frustration is now deep and building. Now we hear that we will need more conferences. Sometime we have to get serious. We should be going to Durban with the firm conviction that we do not come back until we have made substantial advances."

6. You doubt their vulnerability

Countries which are already impoverished and facing much worse conditions in the years to come due to greenhouse gas levels they had very little to do with, are indeed vulnerable. They have more to fear from the "greedy and corrupt leaders" of the industrial nations and global corporations refusing to lessen their impact.

all climate action is harder because the left lets universities endorse RW radio, which does GW denial 24/7 on 1000 stations and reaches 50 mil a week.

talk radio is the samson hair of the modern republican party. it has turned the party of lincoln into the party of limbaugh and made the difference the last 20 years, right under the 'left's' noses because there is no readable record. all climate action is harder while 1% radio ignored, because there is NO organized opposition to the right wing radio monopoly.

legislation to fix the problem will be too slow or impossible. cit united requires that the 1%s best weapon can no longer be allowed to kick internet ass.

we allow our universities to contradict their own mission statements and require their students who don't have TVs or high speed to listen to RW radio stations for their uni sports..

those stations rely on those associations and they need to stop. if unis were challenged by their communities about the global warming denial, racism, sexism, lies, etc. many of those stations would have to consider losing local sponsors and going out of business or balancing programming or going to sports or music.

without their radio monopoly for that coordinated repetition to 50 mil a week they are toothless to intimidate pols and media and keep the GOP in lock step. and they'll lose their ability to create their own teabagger reality.
