BBC NewsTrinidad and Tobago have made several arrests after uncovering a "national security threat" against the Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
Local media reports said an assassination plot against Ms Persad-Bissessar and other ministers had been detected.
The Caribbean nation's security forces have been placed on high alert.
Trinidad and Tobago has been under a limited state of emergency since August because of drug-related gang violence.
