SF ChronNearly half of registered voters in California say they personally identify with the Occupy movement and an even larger number said they agreed with the reason behind the protest, according to a Field Poll released today.
The poll found that among registered voters in the state, 46 percent said they identify with the movement while 58 percent said they agreed with the reasons that are fueling it. Pollsters did not ask about specific reasons, leaving respondents to decide those themselves.
But California voters also have negative feelings toward the movement, with 49 percent answering "not much" when asked how much they personally identified with the movement and 32 percent saying they disagree with the reasons behind it.
The support, or lack thereof, breaks down largely on party and ideological lines, with registered Democrats and people who identify as liberal most in favor, while registered Republicans and conservatives are the strongest opponents. Independent voters were roughly split on whether they personally identified with the movement, though 62 percent said they supported the reasons it has emerged.
