Sam Brownback tweeter: I’m being bullied
Source: Politico

Emma Sullivan, the student who received national attention for writing a disparaging tweet about Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback, told POLITICO that she is being bullied by other students at her school because of the incident.

“It is just bullying, and I’m trying not to take it to heart because that’s what they want me to do,” she said Tuesday. “I’m getting a lot of negative attention locally, and that’s a lot to deal with. The students at my high school are being really bad about the situation - it just sucks that they don’t support me at all in any of this.”

The bullying, much of which is taking place on Twitter, is part of the reason that Sullivan was staying home from school on Tuesday. “They’ve been sending me tweets, calling me an attention whore, saying this is all about fame and that I don’t deserve to be getting any of these interviews,” she said.

A Twitter hashtag set up against her contains numerous expletives, including one user, @PoundShop_Zoe, who calls her a “whore” multiple times. “When Emma Comes back she should be forced to go to north #HopeYourHappy… Whore,” he writes.

94. They wouldn't put it in deliberately
it just depends on where they are getting the water from. Many of the sodas, juices and even bottled waters originate from fluoridated municipal water.

69. I don't know about conformist behavior. I think that comes from the MSM
but yes, flouride will mess with your adrenal system and thyroid, especially at the levels found in most municiple water supplies. The type of flouride used here is banned in many Nations.

89. and i live in one where it is banned
flouride is considered toxic waste in france and is only allowed in tiny doses in some toothpaste but it has to be labled and is not popular toothpaste at all. there is no question of putting it in our water here.

93. Good for you. Most places here in BC ban it too
but it is in most toothpaste, and many of the popular sodas and juices are made with fluoridated water. Another reason to avoid them all.

that Brownback is being bullied. He's saying that the young lady that did the tweet is getting hassled by her peers at school.
And that really sucks. Kids can be stupid little crap factories. She's a brave girl standing up to the governor of a state and refusing to apologize. People need to understand that.

8. She sounds smart and talented --and there's a good chance she'll leave Kansas now
so her talents, her taxes and her offspring then will be elsewhere.

in the long term, she'll be ahead, somewhere else and Kansas will be less because she left.

kinda dumb.

(assuming she leaves Kansas for college --though if she's continually hounded, can't see why she'd stay)

Emma, find another state and city. Try a blue area such as Boston, Philadelphia, the DC area, San Fransisco, Seattle, the Research Triangle, etc.

Kansas is a very conservative state. They are losing population which means there is no chance of the state becoming diverse. Nothing will ever change.

Even in Connecticut, I was raised in a very conservative town with many white flight cowards. That town is now losing population, it is less desirable.

Get out of Kansas, you have great potential and it should not be wasted.

And Prairie Village isn't all that conservative either.

Let's not turn this into a region bashing thread. If you really lived here, you should know better.

Did you know that the first openly gay state official in Oklahoma is a SME grad?

It's not a conservative school.

64. Glad to hear that
about the evolution teaching. I know it was one of those things where evangelicals were getting elected to school boards to influence the teaching of science and evolution--this is NOT a region that I know of this happening. I remember Arkansas was one, Texas another, and Louisiana another. These slimeballs get in on the ground floor and get to a point where they're the majority on the board, so they have no one to challenge them when they pass a vote to allow creationism into the school curriculum.

Glad to see Kansas being able to excape that particular horror.

I drove cross-country in 1989, and had car trouble along the way. I was by myself and some told me I was nuts to go. When my car overheated in Kansas, I had to pull over and let the radiator cool down, and no less than three guys stop to see if they could help out. The third guy actually followed me for 25 miles until he was getting off to make sure I got that far. I know there are good people are everywhere, and that slimeballs are everywhere as well. It doesn't matter what part of the country you're in.

46. Free Speech
Is a 2 way street, she can talk smack about the governor, and others can talk smack about her - fair enough. Was she Bullying the governor? Has she been "bullied" or just the target of others free speech?

49. Allow me to educate you during your brief stay here
Free speech can only be infringed by the GOVERNMENT. Sam Brownback is the government. Emma Sullivan is not. Wingnuts have continually misinterpreted the 1st amendment. It is a right that can only be taken away by your GOVERNMENT. A citizen, like Emma, can NOT infringe on anyone's free speech.

Enjoy your stay. :hi:

70. That Governor is a coward. Lol!
Omg, he looks like a fool all over the country, and the world by now, whining about a schoolgirl saying something which wasn't even that bad, about him. What is he doing in politics? Anyone that thin-skinned does NOT belong in politics.

As for the morons in her school, all gangs are cowards. She will go far, the girl has guts and millions of fans all over the world by now.

Btw, it would help you a lot if you were able to tell the difference between schoolyard bullies harassing another student, and a teenager saying something not so nice about an elected official who is a grown man.

Otoh, the comparison you tried to make was so ridiculous you were probably trying to be funny ... :eyes:

74. Clearly you have a limited grasp of what constitutes bullying or free speech rights.
1. We are protected against the government abridging our free speech. That's all. Well actually, given what's going on with OWS apparently we can't really expect to be protected against the government abridging our free speech, but that's probably for another thread.

2. Bullying involves power differentials that aren't in the Sullivan-Brownback equation. It is absolutely impossible, by definition, for a teenage girl to bully the governor of a state. She could harass him, or at least try, but she could not possibly bully him.

Enjoy your stay.

48. Relax. It's Politico. Riggs Bank, Allbritton family. Augusto Pinochet. Bush and Reagan
Google the owner's family some time.
I take everything I read in Politico with a grain of salt.
Politico's job is to stir up shitstorms.

53. Ah, Riggs Bank.
I thought all those fuckers went to prison though. The Riggs scandal is legendary here in DC in banking circles. Most DC banks will not accept or open petty-cash accounts for foreign embassies or officials as a result.

52. Hang in there, Emma! The world is wide and interesting and,
once you graduate, you can leave the small minds of Kansas behind and associate with people who will appreciate you and expand your horizons.

(Wonder if her cowardly principal is doing anything about the bullying. Or are the only "problems" he cares about the ones that #Brownbackblowsalot staffers bring to him?)

66. It runs in the family.
And in the DNA.

The bullies are the daughters and sons of bullies. Repukes can never win the war of ideas, so they have to resort to physically and mentally threatening others.

75. I support her right to free speech and to not be bullied, however
her "style", in my view, leaves a lot to be desired.

Someone with the hashtag "heblowsalot", telling someone of EITHER party,

that he/she "sucks", isn't exactly "Christian" or "genteel" either

and so I don't know why anyone expects her to get "respectful" or "Christian" responses in return.

If you talk trash, you get trash talk in return.

She is getting obscene/offensive tweets from people who are offended because she tweeted something obscene/offense?

Those radical right-wingers make no sense. Freedom of speech is only for those with whom they agree? I do not understand those people.

Way to roll with the punches Brownback...first ever remark you couldn't take. This country is joke.
