RTT NEWS(RTTNews) - Chicago-area business activity expanded at a faster than expected rate in the month of November, according to a report released by the Institute for Supply Management - Chicago on Wednesday, with the Chicago business barometer jumping to a seven-month high.
The ISM Chicago said its business barometer rose to 62.6 in November from 58.4 in October, with a reading above 50 indicating an increase in activity. Economists had been expecting the index to edge up to a reading of 59.0.
With the much bigger than expected increase, the business barometer rose to its highest level since coming in at 67.6 in April.
The increase by the business barometer was partly due to a notable acceleration in the pace of new order growth, with the new orders index jumping to an eight-month high of 70.2 in November from 61.3 in October.
