Hollings schedules 'major announcement'

COLUMBIA - Democratic U.S. Sen. Ernest F. "Fritz" Hollings will make a "major announcement" today at 3:30 p.m., his spokesman Andy Davis said this morning. Hollings' office would not say what the nature of the announcement would be.

Hollings plans to make the announcement at the Ernest F. Hollings National Advocacy Center at the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

Hollings, whose current term ends next year, has not said in recent months whether he would seek re-election, but he has said that his wife does not want him to run.
