Dead Man Found at Occupy Denton Campsite

Officers with the University of North Texas Police Department are trying to determine the identity of a man found in an empty area of the Occupy Denton campsite.

Police tell NBC DFW that the deceased is a white man. He was found inside one of the tents. Police do not suspect foul play in the death. The camp site is still operating. While on scene, NBC 5's Chris Van Horne watched some campers pack up and leave.

UNT Senior and Occupy Denton Protester Garrett Graham said the group is in mourning. "This is a family and this is a community here," Graham said. "We're dealing with this loss the way a family does: lots of condolences, a lot of emotion and a lot of love."

The brevity of the initial report made me wonder if someone hadn't engaged in foul play, then sneaked in during the dead of night and left a body there.

6. Nope. He was dead. That made news because Black Friday shoppers simply stepped over him to shop.

No one called an ambulance or the authorities.

Had he died in Target on a day other than Black Friday, it probably would not have made the news.

But a loud burp at an OWS seems to get covered. All the positive things that happen there every day? Not so much.
