Music, book industries may back Righthaven
Source: Vegas Inc (Las Vegas Sun)

The U.S. music and book publishing industries may intervene on behalf of Righthaven LLC of Las Vegas in one of its copyright lawsuits, an attorney said Sunday.

Their potential involvement on behalf of Righthaven was revealed when one of the attorneys fighting Righthaven warned a lawyer for the recording and publishing industries that they face a public relations disaster if they side with Righthaven.

... In the lawsuit the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the Association of American Publishers (AAP) apparently want to participate in, U.S. District Judge Philip Pro in Las Vegas threw out a Righthaven lawsuit against Kentucky message board poster Wayne Hoehn.

... Efforts by the book and music industries to overturn Hoehn’s fair use victory wouldn’t be surprising as multiple media observers and attorneys have commented that this is one of the Righthaven cases that has backfired on the media industry by weakening – as opposed to bolstering – copyright protections for content producers.

1. then they should file the copyright infringement lawsuits themselves
or hire Righthaven as their representative. Caveat being, they can't be allowed to hire them retroactively.

2. I guess that the AAP and RIAA
don't care much for public relations in their strategy. I imagine they have thought that through and feel they have more to gain financially by legal attacks and lawsuits.

Meanwhile, we watch them morph from something that resembles a vulture into a more hideous form like Cthulu or Medusa. Ugly is as ugly does in this case.

4. Wow, they're really struggling
Righthaven is appealing the ruling that is doesn't have standing; and appealing the ruling that it was fair use anyway. But, if they lose the decision on standing, then they want the judge's fair use ruling to not count at all - because they don't want a precedent set. And that's the bit the RIAA and AAP are worried about. So they really want Righthaven to have no standing.

5. This is the same industry....
...who couldn't see the electronic media wave coming 20-30 years ago and prepare to meet it, welcome it, adjust their forms and methods to it. Instead, they buried their collective heads in the sand hoping it would just go away. So now that they're almost completely overwhelmed by the computer and the Internets, Righthaven is the last straw they grab onto.

- It all somehow seems fitting that these two losers find each other now.....

8. Actually, this is the same industry that repressed all advancement of technology in the U.S.A.
Ever here of D.A.T.? If not, it was because the Recording Industry kept out of the general public!

This industry saw it coming all right did not want to lose any profits. It cost the record industry $0.03 to produce one stamped CD.

9. If there ever was a reason to inspire people now to download music
and video illegally, this would be it.

if RIAA & AAP go down this road, it will not end well for them.
