TEAM CAIN SHOOTS DOWN ENDORSEMENT SPECULATION.
Source: ABC

Sources close to Herman Cain, who suspended his presidential bid this weekend, said that despite reports late Sunday night, Cain has no plans to announce his endorsement of a candidate on Monday. An Atlanta television station reported Cain would endorse Newt Gingrich today. Cain’s chief of staff Mark Block told ABC News: “I have no knowledge that Cain is endorsing anyone anytime soon.” And Cain’s deputy chief of staff Linda Hansen e-mailed: “Not true. I am not sure where they heard that. Seems the media, in general, has a problem discerning fact from gossip.” A source in Gingrich’s campaign also said a Cain endorsement was not expected today.

1. I still can't figure out why his endorsement would be sought out
by anyone. They should all be running far, far away from him.

9. Because all the libertarians, who aren't already Paul nuts, were for Cain.
This is a significant block, also the tea party had, sort of, settled on Cain after trying out Bachmann and Perry. At least that's how I read it.

16. Does he have any cash in the kitty? And if he suspends, not quits, doesn't
he get a nice chunk of "matching funds?"

All of this coy little "Does he or doesn't he? Will he or won't he?" sounds like a con game with money involved. He knows he can't win now--everything he's doing is to maximize the bottom line. One way to do that is to keep the media "Saying his name."

If he has money, his endorsement matters to a broke candidate.

2. Makes sense...
If he endorsed someone, it would mean his campaign is more than "suspended," and he would be on the hook for his campaign debt. This way he can continue to accept donations. There are still rubes to be fleeced...

13. Oh, I bet he got some promises of "donations" before he agreed to announce he was dropping out.
After all, before he did that, he called his major donors together for a meeting.

He was totally wrecking one of the memes that the GOP had investing in creating, since at least Atwater, if not before. Namely, the Democcrats were the Party of sleazy show business types who drank, did drugs, got divorces and slept around, while Repubicams were the Party of God, morals, ethics, families and clean living. (Hey, listen, when your fiscal policy is theft from the poor, you gotta make up somthing.)

The GOP had a lot riding on that meme, too much to have a serial sexual harasser and long term adulterer running for POTUS..

Cain had become an embarrassment to the Party that was going to end only if he dropped out==and the sooner the better, from the POV of Republicans. I'm guessing that Cain's swift announcement that he would "suspend" his campaign was worth a lot of "donations" from the heavy hitters on the right.

I'm not worrying about Cain's campaign debt--anymore than I worried about Hillary's. It's all good. And it will all work out for the best for the people of the United States. It always does.

Right?

4. Newt must have given the wrong answer when Cain invited him to his room...
...and asked him "You want an endorsement, right?"

7. And the republican clown car continues to amaze and amuse the Democrats, while confusing
their own voters. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Herman, for keeping your voters home.

15. FWIW, I read somewhere that if he stays in the race by January....
he would get Federal funds for campaigning. That's why he's staying in the race...just for the money (you always follow the money)......

17. I think Cain meant to make the endorsement (in exchange for financial help or a job?)
Edited on Tue Dec-06-11 11:38 AM by rocktivity
but someone must have pointed out to him that an endorsement would officially end his "suspended" campaign, resulting in a loss of Federal funds and maybe his Secret Service protection (which, at the very least, he'll need from his wife).

And speaking of his wife, I'm willing to bet that Ginger White and the other women were just the tip of the iceberg.
