Police in City see occupiers as 'terror' risk
Source: Independent UK

The City of London Police force was facing criticism last night after including the Occupy London demonstration in a letter warning businesses about potential terrorist threats.

The letter, a "Terrorism/Extremism Update", lists al-Qa'ida, the Colombian dissidents Farc, and Belarusian terrorists who bombed the Minsk underground. It also lists Occupy London under the heading "Domestic".

It states: "It is likely that activists aspire to identify other locations to occupy, especially those they identify with capitalism. City of London Police has received a number of hostile reconnaissance reports concerning individuals who would fit the anti-capitalist profile. All are asked to be vigilant regarding suspected reconnaissance, particularly around empty buildings."

An Occupy London spokesman said: "Activism is not a crime and the desire to participate in democratic decision-making should not be a cause for concern for the police in any free society.

4. I think the London being referred to is in the UK,
not the United States. So, they may just not be talking about Americans. Now, there is a London in Ontario, Canada, but I think the City of London is in the UK.

How do Americans fit into this story?

8. No. That London is probably not the source of this story, either.
Now, there may be an American or three over there in the UK occupying something, but I doubt they post much of a threat there either.

5. Yeah, those terrorist Occupiers
might want to use those empty buildings for such terrorist activities as sleeping, or feeding the homeless. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

6. "Police in City see occupiers as 'terror' risk" Of course, they do.
"City of London Police has received a number of hostile reconnaissance reports concerning individuals who would fit the anti-capitalist profile."

Yep, that would be many of the occupiers.

"All are asked to be vigilant regarding suspected reconnaissance, particularly around empty buildings."

Oh, great. Vigilantes.

"An Occupy London spokesman said: "Activism is not a crime and the desire to participate in democratic decision-making should not be a cause for concern for the police in any free society."

Should be self-evident.

10. City of London - not London City
Is the old city of London - now the financial district. Within yet seperate from what we think of as modern London. It has its own police force. About 10,000 residents and 300,000 finance-industry jobs.

Its a prime target for any anti-capitalist or anti-globalist. Its heavily fortified and video-surveiled since the days of IRA bombings in the early 1990's.

11. Yes
It was the IRA at the time of the bombing campaign which caused a lot of changes in the area known as The City aka the square mile.

13. Well, now it's terrorism, too, apparently. Did you catch "anti-capitalism profile?"
Wonder if I fit the profile?

Actually, I am pro-capitalism, but against corporate welfare and other indulgences of corporations.
