KING 5 News Seattle & Associated PressCOUPEVILLE, Wash. – Island County Superior Court Judge Vickie Churchill on Friday opted to give the lightest sentence possible to Colton Harris-Moore, the so-called Barefoot Bandit whose spree of break ins and vanadalism stretched from the San Juan Islands all the way to the Bahamas.
Citing Harris-Moore's remorse, willingness to pay full restitution to his victims, and the troubled circumstances of his upbringing, the judge imposed a sentence on the low-end of the standard range dictated under Washington law. That will see Harris-Moore spend more than 7 years in prison.
Earlier Friday, Harris-Moore pleaded guilty to dozens of state charges. Wearing handcuffs and an orange jail uniform, the 20-year-old spoke softly in court and sat next to his attorneys with his eyes downcast, looking even younger than his 20 years.
