China gets approval for Afghanistan oil exploration bid

China has gained potential access to millions of barrels of oil after it won approval for oil exploration and extraction in Afghanistan.

The country's cabinet approved a deal to allow China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) to develop oil blocks in the Amu Darya Basin.

The basin is estimated to hold around 87 million barrels of oil. <snip>

The approval is a major win for China as it has been looking to invest in resource-rich Afghanistan.

1. good. i hope american companies get frozen out.

i'm surprised china hasn't cornered the market for our refinery output. i doubt we will be favored buyer for middle eastern oil, if that was our goal. this would be an excellent outcome as it relates to increasing our fuel efficiency standards.

After all, we have made it "safe" for them to exploit that country now. Maybe we will get compensation as China's own personal mercenaries.
