Wall Street JournalRep. Michele Bachmann on Wednesday ended her campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, following her distant, sixth-place finish in Iowa's caucuses.
Mrs. Bachmann had spent nearly all her time as a candidate in Iowa, but in the end she placed last among candidates who competed there. She drew just 6,073 votes out of about 122,000 cast in the caucuses Tuesday, or 5% of the total.
"Last night, the people of Iowa spoke with a very clear voice, and so I have decided to stand aside,'' Mrs. Bachmann told supporters in Des Moines. She had canceled a planned campaign trip to South Carolina, which votes later this month, to make the announcement.

Mrs. Bachmann, of Minnesota, didn't announce whether she would endorse another candidate, but she said that "we must rally around the person that our country and our party and our people select to be that standard-bearer'' to defeat President Barack Obama.
