PIPA support collapses, with 13 new Senators opposed
Source: Ars Technica

Members of the Senate are rushing for the exits in the wake of the Internet's unprecedented protest of the Protect IP Act (PIPA). At least 13 members of the upper chamber announced their opposition on Wednesday. In a particularly severe blow from Hollywood, at least five of the newly-opposed Senators were previously sponsors of the Protect IP Act.

The newly-opposed Senators are skewed strongly to the Republican side of the aisle. An Ars Technica survey of Senators' positions on PIPA turned up only two Democrats, Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Jeff Merkley (D-OR), who announced their opposition on Wednesday. The other 11 Senators who announced their opposition on Wednesday were all Republicans. These 13 join a handful of others, including Jerry Moran (R-KS), Rand Paul (R-KY), Mark Warner (D-VA), and Ron Wyden (D-OR), who have already announced their opposition.

Marco Rubio, a freshman Republican Senator from Florida who some consider to be a rising star, withdrew his sponsorship of the bill, citing "legitimate concerns about the impact the bill could have on access to the Internet and about a potentially unreasonable expansion of the federal government's power to impact the Internet." He urged the Senate to "avoid rushing through a bill that could have many unintended consequences."

Another co-sponsor, Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) echoed that sentiment. He blamed Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) for "pushing forward w/ a flawed bill that still needs much work."

1. A bill "pushed" by Democrats and stopped by Republicans, yet DU protested it and we are
cheering the Republican action.

Interesting.

Again, the paradigm that works more often than not is 99% vs 1%.

Republicans are usually on the side of the 1%, but I'll take it when something they do works for the 99%.

I have to believe that they have something up their sleeve for the future that we will not like, though.

4. "the paradigm that works more often than not is 99% vs 1%".
Yep.
Democrats are almost always better than republicans, but many Democrats are full-time employees of the 1% just like republicans are.

We, the 99% can't trust them to act in our interests.

So we need to watch them all very closely, and take it upon ourselves to take action in our own interests to prevent the representatives of the 1% from harming us.

Occupy.

6. "better than Republicans" is like saying better than the guy or gal who
just beat up your mama for fun."

I am not sure exactly what it means!

And then, when you add in "almost always" better than Republicans....

11. Not to give them too much credit but it's easy to follow the mob
and call yourself leader.

10. this would be the problem with democrats
some of them are conservative. however the libertarian string that is on the left and right which I'd identify with (left wing libertarian) would hate this bill right out of the gate so it didn't surprise me than Ron Paul would not support it. It's unconstitutional on it's face. Sure the media likes to say if your libertarian you must be tea party but thats not really the case. They've misidentified that view. I'm free speech. This law would shutter such speech because it's poorly written, might actually cause actual wars and cost more money that it would save. This would be one of those times when the arrogance of Hollywood caught the Democrats off guard. And probably end up hurting Hollywood far more than it might have helped.

5. Not over yet.
Last night, the Beeb said they'll wait until after the election then try again.

7. Not surprised.
Obama tried to delay a decision on this, but Republicans forced his hand.

However, they are condemning Reid for pushing a bill that was "not ready," meaning they are not opposed to this, but opposed only to the bill in its present form.

Who is the Beeb, though?

The only "Beeb" I've heard of so far is Justin Bieber. I'm guessing you were not referring to him.
