DCCC outraised NRCC in 2011

The DCCC raised more than $61 million over the course of the year, while the National Republican Congressional Committee announced Friday afternoon that it raised more than $54 million.

Fundraising should have been a challenge for House Democrats after they suffered a 63-seat thrashing in the midterm election that cost them the House majority. But Democrats – led by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and DCCC Chairman Steve Israel – orchestrated an intensified fundraising push designed to boost the party’s coffers ahead of the 2012 election.

House Democrats could still find themselves at a financial disadvantage, however. While it was outraised last year the NRCC heads into 2012 with a $15 million to $11 million cash-on-hand lead over their Democratic counterparts.

Democrats have been trying to play catch-up in the third-party group battle. Last year, a group of party operatives launched House Majority PAC, which has been spending money targeting Republicans.
