Prosecutors drop Lance Armstrong doping investigation
By Terry Frieden, CNN Justice Producer
February 4, 2012 -- Updated 0152 GMT (0952 HKT)

(CNN) -- Justice Department prosecutors said Friday that they are closing a criminal investigation of champion cyclist Lance Armstrong without filing charges that he used performance-enhancing drugs.

A statement from the U.S. attorney in Los Angeles said the seven-time Tour de France winner will not be charged, but did not explain the reasons for the decision.

Prosecutors called witnesses to a federal grand jury in Los Angeles as they investigated the case, but they apparently determined that they lacked evidence to bring a charge.

Hamilton added: "Armstrong took what we all took -- the majority of the peloton took. There was EPO, testosterone, blood transfusions."

Why is the U.S. federal government involved in whether Armstrong violated the rules of the Tour de France?

If anything in federal government should be privatized, it's investigation of whether professional sports figures are following the rules of their respective sports organizations.

Torturing and killing prisoners? Lying a nation into war? We're looking only forward.

Banksters robbing borrowers and avoiding filing fees for deeds? For pity sakes, settle for a fraction; don't prosecute.

Making billions and trillions on crap mortgage derivatives that wrecked economies all over the globe and bankrupted entire nations? Bail out every crook.

A sports figure taking testosterone? OMG, this is series!!!1111!!!

Let the Congressional hearings and grand jury investigations commence!

Where in hell are our priorities anymore?

2. For me, it's not about Armstrong, one way or another. If he did break the rules, I hope
someone within his own sport proves that and takes away his honors, but, in the end, I don't care that much who wins bike races.

For me, it is about the amazing priorities of the federal government we all fund.
