Gov. Rick Scott pressures Florida Keys elections chief on early voting

TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Rick Scott delivered an ultimatum Tuesday to the election supervisor in the Florida Keys, who is refusing to limit early voting to eight days for the November election.

Scott said he will "take all necessary and appropriate action to ensure that the laws are faithfully executed," a statement some elections officials said sounded like he's considering removing the supervisor, Harry Sawyer Jr. from office.

"He's trying to intimidate me, no doubt about it," Sawyer said.

Sawyer, the longtime Monroe County supervisor of elections and a Republican, insists on offering early voting for 12 days and that more people will vote if early voting takes place over a longer period.

Sawyer says the eight-day provision does not apply to Monroe, one of five counties in which any election law changes require preclearance by the U.S. government or federal courts because of past discrimination.

The GOP's agenda to suppress Democratic voter turnout is calculated and widespread.

New Voter ID requirements in Pennsylvania and other states are also part of the Republican plan to force voters into providing a myriad of new paperwork to be able to vote, and very close to an election, whereas a written signature and a utility bill that verified the voter's address have been entirely sufficient for decades to be able to cast a vote.



When Republicans cannot win on their policies, they must cheat to win elections.



Florida, we must vote a Democratic Legislature into power in November.

Every single seat in the Florida state Senate and House is up for election.

At that point, impeachment proceedings can begin, to remove this scourge of a Medicare fraudster from the governor's mansion. Rick Scott must not be allowed 2 more years to rape and pillage Florida, at the behest of the Koch Brothers, ALEC and a handful of billionaires who want total control over our government.


And while we're at it, let's drive Jeb "Bold Educational Privatization Reform" Bush out of the state of Florida once and for all. After thirty-two years of him, he is long past his sell-by date.
