7 Wounded in SE (DC) In Drive-by Attack

Seven people were wounded late last night in far Southeast Washington in a hail of bullets fired in a drive-by attack, authorities said.

One of the victims was shot in the head in the volley of gunfire about 10:45 p.m. in the 2700 block of Langston Place, near the Woodland Terrace housing complex. The site is near Suitland Parkway and Alabama Avenue. ---

There was no immediate indication of what led to the attack, but police speculated that it might have stemmed from conflict between rival groups, one in the Garfield Heights area, where the gunfire erupted, and one from the Congress Heights neighborhood less than two miles to the west. ---

None of the victims of last night's attack was identified immediately, but police and fire officials said it appeared that all were young men, in their teens or twenties. ---
