Wired: New Security Woes for E-Vote Firm (DIEBOLD!!!)
http://www.wired.com/news/privacy/0,1848,59925,00.html

Following an embarrassing leak of its proprietary software over a file transfer protocol site last January, the inner workings of Diebold Election Systems have again been laid bare.

A hacker has come forward with evidence that he broke the security of a private Web server operated by the embattled e-vote vendor, and made off last spring with Diebold's internal discussion-list archives, a software bug database and more software.

The unidentified attacker provided Wired News with an archive containing 1.8 GB of files apparently taken March 2 from a site referred to by the Ohio-based company as its "staff website."

OH MY!

1. Why I love hackers!
the hackers of the world are just what we need right now to prove that this whole voting maching thing is a badbadbad idea! I hope they get together and decide to go after this company full boar, bring all their source code right out into the open, and prove once and for all the things are NOT secure!

3. I'm Keeping a Healthy Pessimism
Who's to say the kid wasn't given the files, specifically to show how diligently Diebold was working to fix the problems?

4. have you ever worked at a software firm?
you don't give a kid files like this just to prove you're working on the problem.

6. By admitting the hacker got the files

They are admitting that their security sucks rocks.
If they wanted to show how great their system was, they would have shown the hacker going to jail.

In addition, no one seems to express concern that Diebold also makes ATM systems...
