A vaccine against deadly Ebola is on the way

Washington - In what is seen as a major breakthrough in fighting one of the deadliest diseases known to man, the United States government announced on Wednesday that it has developed an experimental vaccine believed to be capable of protecting primates from the Ebola virus.

Ebola, which has already ravaged several African countries, normally kills 90 percent of its victims.

"This research has enormous public health implications, not only because it might be used to limit the spread of Ebola virus, but also because this vaccine strategy may be applied to other highly lethal viruses, such as the Marburg and Lassa fever viruses and the Severe Acute Respiratory System coronavirus," commented Anthony Fauci, director of the American Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

when HIV was found by both Fauci and 2 French scientists, the French said all 3 should get credit. Fauci wanted all the glory and refused to release his notes to them for joint research. He put his own vanity before people's lives.

Damn, hope you don't step on a rusty nail anytime soon unless you enjoy having tetanus. Seriously, most vaccines are quite good at saving lives by preventing diseases. But I do agree with you that no one really needs this vaccine. There have been what, about 500 cases of Ebola ever since it was ID'ed in the 70's or 80's? Its a non-issue for the vast majority of the human population. Hell, how about identifying what its host carrier is first. Then you can simply try to minimize contact with that animal instead.

This vaccine is going to save a lot of animals, hopefully. Ebola is wiping out monkey populations around Africa.

I agree with you though about vaccines. While there are definitely issues with some vaccines (MMR & Autism for one), I think people forget or don't realize how many lives have been saved by vaccination over the years. Polio, Smallpox, Diptheria, just to name a few.
