NDP takes Hamilton seat from Ontario Liberals - Globe and Mail
Hamilton — Ontario New Democrat Andrea Horwath won the Hamilton East by-election Thursday night, as voters boosted the NDP back to official party status and sent the message they are disappointed in the province's new Liberal government.

Ms. Horwath, 41, a Hamilton city councillor since 1997, defeated Liberal candidate Ralph Agostino, 42, a real estate agent and school trustee since 1994.

Mr. Agostino was trying to keep the riding in the family following the death of his older brother Dominic Agostino in March from liver cancer.

-Bodes well for the Federal party in next month's Federal Election, as well as being a massive relief.

1. I think Hamilton will be good to us in the federal election.
Hamilton Centre seems an almost certain pick-up. With some breaks, maybe one or two more.

As for the Ontario wing, I had been unimpressed with Hampton's leadership and wanted him replaced by Peter Kormos, but now I think his staying was a good idea. We should do better campaigning against a Liberal government acting like conservatives than against a Liberal opposition pretending to be liberals.

2. Yeah, this is a major boost to the Ontario Federal campaign.
The Jack and Olivia show is going to play to packed houses in Ontario's Cities.

4. The Bob Rae factor is dead and buried.
Could this timing be any better?

6. This Hamiltonian is rejoicing!
Some Hamilton ridings have been "bellwethers" in the past -- there could be more to follow!
