Bush Likes to Run When it is 100 Degrees
Edited on Thu Aug-07-03 03:20 PM by doxieone
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20030807/pl_nm/bush_heat_dc_1

Those who can finish the 3-mile circuit up and down hills without stopping get a gray T-shirt marking them as a member of the president's 100-degree club.

Those who do not finish have to make do with the class photo.

Bush, who can run a mile in 7-1/2 minutes, typically leads the pack and is done long before the last stragglers cross the finish line.

No one in their right mind would exercise OUTSIDE in the August Texas heat.

I do my exercise indoors, and I sweat profusely; I can't imagine running outside in the hottest part of the day.

Maybe then the 3rd ID will give you a T-shirt and induct you in their club you sack of ****.

41. Oh, is he back to running?
This is curious, because back in April he supposedly tore a muscle ligament. This apparently didn't bother him much, when he landed on the flight deck he didn't have a discernable limp. He trotted around Europe, no one noticed a limp. Yet within a week after falling off of the Segway, he had a limp.

He claimed it was from the muscle tear in April, all of the flunkies in the media bought that hook, line and sinker, as did a few posters here at DU.

He had to give up running. It sounded like this was a serious long term problem.

Now he is back to running, when did this start? I would say in about the time it would take someone to recover from a Falling-off-Segway injury. Maybe two weeks.

I'm older than he is and do 5 miles in hundred degrees and/or below zero. I run every day and walk the 5 same miles back home. Its not hard - anyone can do it.
It takes real discipline to do a marathon - I don't think he has it in him.

51. Ahhhh....the marathon
Walking the marathon isn't too bad. Did it in April. Wonderful to say you 'did it,' even if not by running. :D Takes about 7 or 8 hours at a decent walking pace. The Portland Marathon is one of the few walker-friendly marathons. http://www.portlandmarathon.org

I wouldn't do it in 100-degree heat, though, unless I had seriously trained in that kind of heat. The nutrition-hydration needs are totally different in 90+ degree heat than in the mild climes of 45F-80F. Acclimatisation is more than just a joke when talking about doing the marathon, even slowly in 6, 7, or 7.5 hours.

Sprinting and running 5 miles/less is a lot different than going 26.2.

77. I hear in Crawford the bet is about 4 minutes after the term
they are not happy people and Texas Monthly did a whole thing on it a few months back. No one there thinks he will stay a whole 5 minutes after his term.

A coworker has a relative out there in Waco-land who actually says he's voting Dem next time (ABB) because of the "deceit" about the ranch and the disruption to life when his majesty is in the neighborhood. I'm sure it doesn't bother most Replicants but this old rancher finds it "disgusting" that he plays "rancher" (I find it hilarious myself)

mandatory drug tests for aviators in the reserve...Bush took off running. it was just a little hot.

Ken Lay Screws thousands of employees out of retirements yet keeps his billions and stays out of jail...Bush runs away from "Kenny Boy" this was too hot.

16 words got the White House in hot water and Bush ran as long as he could then stopped running when things cooled down and took credit, I mean, blame for the lie after running from it for a month.

Bush has a history of running when things get hot.
Where I come from, people who do this are called cowards.

Does he keep that pace for the whole 3 miles?
That's an 8 MPH pace.

When I go for a ride, I start out really good, too. The first mile's usually done at a 17-18 MPH pace, but by the time I'm at mile 8 or so, that pace has slacked to maybe 12.5. But then it stays there for the next 8 miles.

Maybe Lance will visit him at the "Ranch" and bring an exra TT bike along...With Chimpy's skill on a Segway, it could be hillarious...

63. apparently he used to be able to manage 6:30 miles
So for him to crank out 3 7:30's in a row would be no biggie....but that was a couple years back when he was in "shape" :eyes:
7:30 is no big deal, although for him to be doing it in 100 degrees and blazing sun is pretty stupid, even though it's only a 22 minute workout. You wouldn't want to do that for very long.

66. Maybe he's trying to kill himself.
He's so into death and probably hates himself so much that maybe he'll try to do anything to put himself out of his misery.

69. True 100 degree club
A list of those I have seen this week outside working:
The garbagemen making their rounds.
The construction crews putting up a house
Landscaping crews mowing grass.
UPS delivery drivers loading and unloading.
Harveting crews bringing in the crops (corn).
Crews doing major work on the roads. (Month long road resurface)
Power company crews going out on calls.
Septic company crews and the "Honey wagon" porta-potty guys.

These people have to be out there, earing a wage to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads.

One other thing I saw all of this within 20 miles of the ranch. You see I live close by, not that I would call my self a neighbor.

These people are the true 100 degree club. That activity on the ranch is the sign of a waana-be.

71. I've seen presidents run.
There is the pResident.
His SS running buddies.
The "football" guy in a 4X4 limo.
The 4X4 ambulance.
The 4X4 with the uzi dudes.
And then a van full of reporters and camera men.
Shrub IS NOT hitting the trail alone!
Shit, he's got an airconditioned limo full of ice water dogging his step. Probably some guy with a porta potty in case he has to take a pResidential dump!

73. A Kamp Krawford (tm) tradition, donchya know
Edited on Sat Aug-09-03 12:29 PM by babzilla
Of course we all know about the 100-degree club from last year's trip to Kamp Krawford (tm). Let us revisit the same story from last August shall we? Who says the press is lazy and phoning it in, relying solely on the lastest Rove fax?

Since Sept. 11, Exerciser Bush Finds Himself on War Footing

By Mike Allen
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, August 22, 2002; Page A15

CRAWFORD, Tex., Aug. 21 -- Between war councils during his working vacation at his ranch, President Bush has been holding auditions for his "100 Degree Club," made up of staff members and Secret Service agents who can keep up with him on a hilly, three-mile run when it is 100 degrees.

He even has T-shirts and certificates.

Physicians report Bush in 'unbelievable' condition
By Richard Benedetto and Steve Sternberg, USA TODAY

WASHINGTON — President Bush, a 56-year-old fitness fanatic, is so competitive that his excellent health report last year evidently wasn't good enough. Bush, whose condition ranked him in the top 2% for men older than 45 last year, made it to the top 1% this year.

<snip>

At his ranch in Crawford, Texas, in the summer, he leads the "100-degree Club." Staffers and Secret Service agents who run with Bush when the temperature is 100 degrees or higher get a T-shirt and certificate of membership in the club.

The president's physical examination was done at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., near Washington.

<snip>

He later flew to his ranch in Texas, which he will use as his base of operation until about Labor Day.

See how it works? Every summer georgie gets a good check-up and as a reward he gets his month-long trip to Kamp Krawford where all of his yes-men are careful to stay a couple of paces behind him in the big 100-degree club runs, oh and did I mention, there are t-shirts and certificates too! The only question I have is what is georgies winning act for the big end of summer talent show?

75. Maybe it's a subconcious act...
... in his mind he's running away from all the people he's screwed and lied to. The invisible mob of the unemployed and families of dead soldiers and Iraqi children are forever chasing him. Like the angry villagers scene from Frankenstein.
