EVERETT — A jury this morning took less than 30 minutes to convict a Lynnwood man who admitted beating his grandmother to death with a rock .
Found guilty of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon, Eric Rupp, 26, faces between 22 years and life in prison when he is sentenced Monday. He acted as his own attorney in the trial, which started Monday.
Rupp said he hated his grandmother, Myrtle Rupp, and struck her three times with a volleyball-sized rock on Feb. 6. He then stole her purse and her car. He stopped at Leavenworth and Lake Chelan, then headed to Montana before he was arrested near Spokane.
Rupp did not say anything as bailiffs escorted him from court but during his closing argument once again confessed to the killing.
