Poll: Davis Would Lose to Schwarzenegger
Elections - AP Gubernatorial

California voters would take away Gov. Gray Davis' job and give it to actor Arnold Schwarzenegger if the Oct. 7 recall election were held immediately, a poll found Saturday.

The Time/CNN poll, released on the last day for candidates to file to run in the election, found that 54 percent of voters would recall the Democratic governor and 35 percent would keep him in office. Eleven percent were not sure. ---

Of eight potential replacement candidates the poll mentioned, Schwarzenegger, a Republican, got support from 25 percent of respondents. Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante, with 15 percent support, was the only other replacement candidate in double digits.

If Davis loses the recall, his replacement won't need a majority of the vote — just more than any of the 130 other contenders who could end up on the ballot. ---

1. I believe that Gray could resign, making Bustemante governor
and the recall nil. Comments? I believe someone on the
boob tube mentioned that yesterday.

2. unfortunately, no....
He had to resign before the recall was certified. If he resigns now, Bustamante will take over until the recall election, but the second part of the recall ballot will occur no matter what. Bummer. Davis threw away a chance to let California off the hook.

5. So let's see...
Davis, with 35% of the vote, would lose to someone who only got 25%. Seems a strange way to run a democracy :(

6. McClintock 9%, Simon 7%, Flynt 4%. No joy in Freepville tonight.
I think the recall will fail because there is no reason for the RW to be excited about the replacements. Arnold is an unknown, might be worse for business and has morality baggage. Bustamante would gain by being the incumbent in the next election. Simon is way back in the pack.

7. More lies from CNN
Edited on Sun Aug-10-03 02:50 AM by The Zanti Regent
Folks, note who did the poll, after all it's Time Warner CNN--the company that has made millions from Arnold's crappy pictures.

This is bullshit plain and simple.

It doesn't take a nuclear physicist to figure out why CNN is kissing Arnold's ass, after all he's been a loyal Time Warner employee so quite naturally they are going to lie any lie to elect this adulterous, depraved, corrupt, immoral meathead--the same bisexual bozo who is so depraved, he makes Bill Clinton look like Mary Poppins.

Larry Flynt was on BSRNC saturday night with O'Donnell and he was asked point-blank if he was going to dump any dirt. Larry said "There is plenty of red meat surrounding one candidate" and I bet it's the candidate who was caught in his trailer committing adultery. the SAME ONE who said "Eating ain't Cheating!" and the same one who cops a feel from any woman he can get his slimy sleazy hands on. I am sure that Larry has trump after trump up his sleeve and he's gonna play those cards and take that certain pompous ass to the cleaners!

BTW--note one of the wild cards that has already been played--the "Rev" Lou Sheldon, hate monger extraordinaire has now come out firmly against CNN's anointed choice. Ol' Lou, the ideological clone of Fred Phelps, is going to pound his Bible against the Chosen one.

Do not underestimate Gray Davis. When his back is against the wall, he is one of the few Democrats who DOES fight back and NOBODY intimidates him. He will do some TV ads, and I will bet the farm that they will include those clips from Pumping Iron showing a certain steroid addict smoking a green leafy herb. Now, how is THAT going to play in California's bible belt...

We've got our work cut out for us. We have to make sure that EVERY Democrat is at the polls on OCtober 7th and we have only 18 days to get people registered to give a certain overdeveloped steroid addict a good swift kick in the balls, if he has any left from the chemical abuse he put his body through!

YOUR LIFE DOES DEPEND ON WHAT YOU DO OCTOBER 7TH!

THE CONSTITUTION DEPENDS ON YOU TO DEFEND IT FROM THE FORCES OF FASCISM!

VOTE NO ON THE RECALL AND BUSTAMANTE FOR GOVERNOR!

8. i wish these polls would also ask,
in addition to "who" people would vote for, the question of whether habitual groping of women without their consent is appropriate behavior for a governor.

9. Sure, 25% beats 35% any day of the week
I hope Davis' 14th ammendment suit puts the kabosh on this sordid affair.
