Bremer Says Iraqi Militants Returning for Attacks
Bremer Says Iraqi Militants Returning for Attacks
Sat August 9, 2003 09:04 PM ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The top U.S. administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer, was quoted on Sunday as saying hundreds of Islamic militants who fled the country during the war had returned and were planning major "terrorist attacks."
Bremer told The New York Times that hundreds of fighters from Ansar al Islam, a militant organization that the United States had sought to destroy during the war, had escaped to Iran and then slipped back into Iraq after the cessation of major combat.

The interview was conducted on Friday, the day after a car bomb killed 17 people outside the Jordanian embassy in Baghdad.

"My initial instinct was to believe that this had to be done from somebody from outside," he said. "But I have been told we captured and spoke to some ex-regime people and that there was part of the Mukhabarat (Iraqi intelligence) that specialized in sophisticated bombing and it is possible that this kind of technique did exist."

Bremer said it was also possible that Ansar al Islam or another militant organization had provided expertise on making car bombs to former Baathists who then carried out the attack. (snip/...)

4. What the f*** did they expect.
The U.S. presence in Iraq is a magent for every radical Islamic movement in a 3,000 mile radius.

The inevitable will happen sooner or later when a lot more than just a couple of U.S. soldiers will die in an incident.

The foreign invaders with hugs and flowers.

Or it's possible that they just want to see how much their country has improved since Bushvan the Terrible took over.

Or it's possible that they came back so they can partake in the local elections.

7. Afghanistan gave the * admin. false expectations...
After plowing into Afghanistan and not experiencing the fallout and blowback that, say, the Russians experienced gave the Bushies the idea that any incursion into the Arab world would go so well.

Little did they know.
