Bush Pre-Election Promises vs. Post-Election Budget; Democrats Fan Out to Tell Voters How Much Bush's Reelection Will Cost Them
WASHINGTON, June 1 /U.S. Newswire/ -- A new report out today from the John Kerry for President campaign uncovers the state-by- state impact of the Bush administration's secret budget plan to cut major spending in 2006 if the President is reelected. Using the report, Democrats this week will hold events across the country so voters can see how much the President's secret budget will cost them.
Impacting veterans, women, children and homeland security programs, the President's secret budget plan was first unearthed by news organizations last week. Reports were based on a Bush administration memo directing federal agencies to anticipate cuts beginning in fiscal year 2006.
"Bush's secret plan to cut homeland security, education and veterans benefits isn't a secret anymore," said Kerry campaign spokesman Chad Clanton. "People need to know what this Administration's irresponsible fiscal policies are costing them, and how they tried to conceal these budget cuts."
Throughout the week, Democrats will hold events in nearly 30 states to highlight the results of this report. Governors, members of Congress, mayors and other local activists will participate. Examples of Democrats participating in events include Governor Vilsack and Senator Harkin in Iowa and Governor McGreevey in New Jersey.
Nationally, Bush's secret plan will:
-- Cut $910 million for the nation's 26.7 million veterans
-- Cut $1 billion for homeland security needs
-- Cut $1.5 billion for education
-- Cut 21,820 kids from head start
-- Force 187,287 mothers out of the Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Plan.
