Two propane trucks stolen in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO - Two propane-delivery trucks were stolen from a San Antonio gas company over the long holiday weekend, city police said Tuesday.

But Police Chief Albert Ortiz said his department does not suspect that terrorism was behind the fuel thefts.

One of the tankers carried about 3,000 gallons of propane, while the other held 2,600 gallons, police said.

Also under investigation is the weekend theft of 15 gas canisters from an ambulance supply company.

"We think it is just a coincidence at this point," said Ortiz, who appeared at a Tuesday news conference with the head of the local FBI office.

(sorry for the initial sketchiness - I posted immediately after CNN broke in with this, but after reading the AP/Ft Worth Star-Telegram story, I'm not quite sure if this is as serious as it sounds).

Wow. I've been working in the transportation industry for 17 years -- when a vehicle doesn't come back, we call the police THAT NIGHT (if not before, if it really seems to be 'missing'). And that's just with regular cars, buses and vans -- not tankers that can destroy a medium sized building.

The truck was probably sold in Mexico for some construction project. The truck was stolen over the weekend. It's no doubt been in Mexico long before anyone knew it was gone.

This is an extremely common occurence here in San Antonio. Don't let them use the fear factor any more.

53. Stealing trucks to strip them for parts is nothing new.

That's probably the case here. Truck tires alone cost a pretty penny. They most likely can sell them in Mexico or Central America.
