Spain grants man 'gay asylum'
Madrid - In the first case of its kind, the Spanish government has granted political asylum to a homosexual on the grounds of his sexual orientation, press reports said on Wednesday.

Colombian John Jairo Romero, 40, received constant threats and survived an assassination attempt after testifying against three police officers, who were imprisoned for killing homosexual prostitutes.

He had to change addresses constantly and employ bodyguards to protect him.

2. Is this a FAUX subsidy?
A correct headline would read something along the lines of "Spain grants man asylum due to anti-gay persecution" or something of the sort. "gay asylum" just sounds so uneducated. Almost like "gay marriage". I'm waiting for the day "gay marriage" is just "marriage".

Also it sounds like the persecution was started by the act of testifying against the police. In that case a better term (although not entirely accurate) may be "political asylum" as he apparently was not granted asylum simply because he is homosexual. The article states the persecution stated "after" testifying against police.

Anyway, the headline and first sentence of this story make it sound like he was granted asylum simply for being gay which is not the case.

5. Hey don't knock it - gay asylum sounds fun!
Buenos dias senor - weel you be claiming gay asylum or straight asylum?

I agree though - a better headline could have been "Spain grants gay man asylum". Although it wouldn't tell the whole story, it at least implies that the asylum was granted based on his sexuality, rather than this being a man (orientation unspecified) who has been given either homosexual or joyful asylum.

its a great way of getting attention.

Why do I get the impression that when all of the turmoil of the recent years is over that we will have gays sgueeeling about how they are abused?

I think they like it
