Lieberman lashes left-wing Democrats
WASHINGTON (CNN)

Sen. Joe Lieberman attacked the left wing of his party Sunday, saying Democrats "don't deserve to run the country" if they move left and embrace "the failed solutions of the past."

"If we're for middle-class tax increases, if we send a message of weakness and ambivalence on defense, if we go back to big government spending, if we're against trade for protectionism -- which never created a job -- we don't deserve to run the country," Lieberman, a presidential candidate, said on "Fox News Sunday." --

Lieberman said on Fox News that Dean has tapped into anger among Democrats toward President Bush.

"I share the anger, but, ultimately, to govern this country, it takes more than anger," he said. "It takes experience. It takes positions that reflect the best values of the American people. And it takes the kind of solid leadership capacity that America will need in an age of terrorism and in an age of real economic anxiety."

Lieberman said Dean's call for a repeal of all of Bush's tax cuts "would mean an increase in taxes on everybody, including the middle class and working families, who don't deserve it now. ---

I think I'm going to donate $25 to Dean's campaign every time that Lieberman bashes him. (limit once per day, of course)

It will be with the maximum amount of gagging, retching, and extremely foul language that I'd vote for Lieberman if that sanctimonious old poop gets the nod, but remember, folks, it's ANYBODY BUT BUSH.

It's absolutely essential to rid ourselves of the criminal Bush gang in the next election, along with most of the incumbents in Congress who have supported his insane policies.

I'm not ready to go off in a huff and vote for some no-hope third party candidate in the next election if they run a DINO like Lieberman. The stakes are just too high this time.

91. Sorry, but Dean IS advocating a middle class tax increase
Dean is calling for a repeal of ALL of Bush's tax cuts that are now on the books. Those tax cuts include breaks for everyone who pays federal income tax, including the middle class. Dean would repeal those tax cuts - so that would result in a middle class tax increase. He has even admitted that we have to choose between the tax cuts and health care coverage.

Those tax cuts were aimed and benefitted mostly the wealthy in this country. Thus by repealing them, the tax burden will fall mostly on the wealthy.

96. Could Backfire? RE: California
From Dan Weintraub column, SacBee

"I am not suggesting that you feel sorry for Arnold, or for others in his class. But remember this: in the tax year 2000, California had 44,000 people who earned $1 million or more. They earned 21 percent of the state’s income and paid 37 percent of the income taxes, $15 billion in all. The following year, 29,000 people earned more than $1 million. Their incomes represented 12 percent of the money earned in the state, and they accounted for 25 percent of the tax paid, or $8 billion. That $7 billion drop was virtually all the decline in state taxes, the very decline that led to the deficit, since the state kept spending as if the money would keep pouring into the treasury."

101. Yes, this might be true, but . . .
It does not take into account corporate tax cuts, nor corporate tax dodges, such as moving offshore, etc. Quite frankly I think that we not only need to repeal the Bush tax cuts(which would not affect the average American that much), we need to go a step further and close corporate tax loophole, along with requiring that business who primarily do business in the US be based in the US, not the Cayman Islands or some other like tax haven.

It's called not voting for it in the first place.

"One year after President Bush signed the tax cut into law, the economy is growing, consumer spending is up and America is on the path to economic recovery. The tax cut provided a much needed boost to our economy at just the right time by...boosting investment and creating jobs... The tax cut will help create 800,000 jobs by the end of 2002."

At the rate he's offending the party of which he claims to be a member, and whose support he needs whether he likes us or not, he's kissing goodbye any chance he might ever have of winning the Democratic nomination. 80. He really thinks he's fighting for the soul
of the Democratic party, that's why he's speaking like this. I also think there's a little extortion involved; by doing dirt on Dean, he makes Dean a chancier candidate for the Dems to run. He is speaking less to the primary voters, I think, and more to the donors and the DNC.

Finally, never overlook the possibility that he reached the conclusion his own electoral goose is already cooked, and he's paving the way for a candidate other than Dean to win the primary. Despite what some here say, I believe Lieberman is a loyal Democrat, after his own fashion, and wants whoever wins the nomination to have the best chance against Bush. If he really believes Dean is a dead man walking, saying so now might help to avert a rout in the future. It's dangerous to always read stupidity or venality into someone just because we don't like them, and I think that happens here a lot, especially with regards to Lieberman.

34. I think Loserman is working for Rove
The reaoson i say that, is the only people dishonest enough to say that repealing Juniors tax-cut 99% of which went to the filthy rich, is "raising taxes on the middle class" are Rove, Hannity, Rush and LOSERMAN. That right there ought to tell you something.
Its an outright LIE, noone could come to that conclusion accidentally, Loserman is lying to the middle class and in bed with the far right rethugs.

I think Loserman is a mole for the neo-cons, he doesnt want any Dem victory messing up his PNAC foreign policy dreams. I linked an article last week that documented Loserman being on a "steering committee" that recommended a foreign policy to Junior the first day he took office. His co-authors were Wolfowitz and Mort Zuckerman, they recommended American troops attacking Syria and Iraq.

40. A very telling quote
Edited on Sun Aug-10-03 08:11 PM by jamesinca
"I think they overstated the case in a series of arguments, which were not necessary because the case was so strong," he said. "That's why I've said that the administration's actions have threatened to give a bad name to what was a just war."

Joe, I got a question: If the war was so just, why did they have to lie about it? Why did they lie, could it not stand on its own merits? Is this why they had to sell the war on those lies, becuse the truth, its own merits would not stand up to public scrutiny? If you believe in liberating people from opressive regeims, why not take on China? Joe, what were those strong arguments? All the arguments I have heard are lies, or have not been verifiable! They have not been able to rule out the end of the Hussein or his Batth party or its supporters. They do not know where Hussein is. There has not been any evidence for, but there has been evidence against a link to terrorist. There has been no proof of WMD, but there has been evidence that they don't exist. There is proof to support a hunt for oil and world domination, as evidenced in the PNAC, or this article from a Florida newspaper:

On May 25, while scanning the Air Force Defense Meteorological Satellite Program images pipelined into his desktop from 450 miles in orbit, Hank Brandli skidded at a nighttime photo of Iraq. It looked familiar. But not exactly.
Brandli retrieved another DMSP image he'd archived from May 3. He compared the two. The most recent photo showed a blazing corridor of light running the length of Kuwait, south to north, all the way to the Iraqi border. The image wasn't there on May 3.
"It's going right up to Iraq's oil fields," says the retired Air Force colonel from his home in Palm Bay. "Maybe I'm full of s---. Maybe all they're doing is building a highway to put in McDonald's and sell hamburgers. But why go that way? I think we're in bed with Kuwait. I think we're pumping oil out of Iraq to pay for this war."
That's an audacious observation. Especially considering those labyrinthine lines of exasperated motorists waiting to gas up at the fuel pumps in Baghdad. Not to mention the fact that Iraq's infrastructure officially won't be capable of exporting oil for another week or so.
But as the May-June issue of Weatherwise magazine makes clear, Brandli isn't a conspiracy zealot squinting for guppies in the fig trees. An article titled "Weathering History" profiles the Vietnam veteran as a pioneer in satellite meteorology who was unable to discuss much of his defense work until 1995. That's the year President Clinton declassified vaults of Cold War satellite images.
Now 63, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology alumnus isn't allowing multiple sclerosis to derail his passion for eye-in-the-sky technology. Three times a day, he checks his the latest unclassified downloads from American and Russian weather satellites filtering into his home-wired receivers. He found last month's DMSP nocturnal shots over Baghdad especially compelling.
"You look for patterns. Patterns tell you things," says Brandli, who has masters degrees in meteorology, aeronautics and astronautics, and the author of "Satellite Meteorology" for the Air Force's Air Weather Service in 1976. "With night photos, you can distinguish natural gas burnoff, which looks globular, from city lights. And suddenly, over just a few weeks, we've got this straight line of lights leading all the way to those beautiful wells in southeastern Iraq.
"If you're building pipelines, you've got to have power, you've got to have light -- trucks and personnel and food and all sorts of support. If I had to bet, I'd say it looks like we're running Iraqi oil through Kuwait. It would make sense, because Kuwait's got its infrastructure intact."
At the State Department in Washington, D.C., David Staples on the Future of Iraqi Projects desk says he doesn't know if Iraq's oil is flowing into Kuwait. He referred the query to the Defense Department. A DoD spokesman suggested contacting the Office of Coalition of Provisional Authority (OCPA) in Baghdad. OCPA was not immediately available for comment.
In Indialantic, retired Air Force Col. Hyko Gayikian isn't sure what to make of Brandli's speculation. He wonders if maybe Kuwait's lights were pre-existing features that were temporarily shut down during the war. (Brandli says no, that he checked other photos prior to the March war campaign and could find no such lights.)

<SNIP>

This is a weak argument at best, but it is stronger than anything you can present in rebuttal.

Another reason I won't vote for Joe Lieberman.

What arguments do you have Joe? What are you witholding from the public? Quite being a lackey for the Republicans, let us know what you know, or are you just attacking the Dems?

Since he isn't running, it's high time Al put Holy Joe in his proper
place - as Jeffords replacement.

Is there a new ultra-conservative Jewish contingent Holy Joe is appealing to - perhaps lining his pockets?

I am so tired of his hot air and slinging propaganda for the right. He might as well bolt parties now. Better yet we should kick him out ourselves. From now on Joe is a repuke to me - someone I will never trust or vote for much less listen to on any issue. Goodbye holy Joe and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

How could Gore ever have picked this pompous fool for a running mate?

58. I've finally had enough. I'll not vote for Lieberman, no matter what.
Edited on Sun Aug-10-03 09:53 PM by TahitiNut
I voted for Gore/Lieberman. I've repeatedly given Joe the benefit of my doubts, looking away and trying to focus on where I agree with him.

No longer.

He's like a short-shooter with a mortar, dropping rounds on his own side. And it's now clear that he's doing it deliberately. The major reason (of many) I voted agsinst Bush 1 and Bush 2 was their marginalization of people of conscience in this country -- people who oppose endless war, oppose corporate welfare, oppose endless imprisonment of our citizens, oppose patronizing government, oppose exploiting the poor in order to enrich the powerful or empower the rich, oppose putting future generations in debt, oppose narrow-minded religious moralizers in government, and speak truth to power.

Lieberman has propagandistically demonized this 'base' within his own Party -- people with whom he should find the most common ethical and political ground. He has done so at the same time he has overreached in making excuses and offering the greatest conceivable benefit of very little doubt to the Reichsfuhrers infesting the White House.

He is not only a Quisling Democrat, he is either a dupe or a liar.

If, by some abysmal twist of fate, he becomes the nominee, I would be obliged to leave DemocraticUnderground since I cannot in any good conscience support him. I will not stay around only to stifle my own conscientious viewpoint for the sake of the kind of partisanship I most abhor. And I could not allow myself to engage in covert "disruption" merely to remain 'active'.

On the one hand he bashes Democrats, sounding like a spokesperson for Bush.

Then in the very next sentence he says why we should vote for him instead of Bush. But he just spent the last five minutes bashing the Dems, not Bush.

It's just bizarre. It's seriously like he's forgotten who he's running against. It's like he's got some sort of mental disorder.

60. Lieberman assumes that he has earned the right
To speak for the democratic party on the strength of his selection as Al Gore's running mate.I cannot recall him winning any nominations for national office as a democrat. He now asserts that
true democrats like Governor Dean have only anger but are incapable of governing.Governor Dean has run a state government, has balanced the budget, provided universal medical care for his state's residents
and has shown fiscal restraint. Joe Lieberman who voted for the tax cuts for the rich Bush program forgets that his collusion has produced the largest budget deficits in US history and threatens to drown the country in red ink forever. Yet he has the audacity to claim that this record is superior to the Clinton-Gore record of
producing the first budget surplus since the Republican mismanagement of the economy.

His support for the war in Iraq even after the original reasons have been exposed as lies makes one wonder why he even bothers to speak on this issue. Does he realize that his support for these lie based war in Congress has caused the deaths of many soldiers and many innocent civilians in Iraq? If he was so concerned about a "just" war
that should be supported by democrats without any evidence, why did holy Joe avoid service in Vietnam? May be he has soulmates in Bush and Cheney who despite their strong support for the war in Vietnam
claimed they had other priorities. What was your excuse Joe?

His support for the Republican inspired impeachment of Bill Clinton
is the last straw in my book.He is a despicable coward, a moral
misfit, a trojan horse of the DLC/PNAC crowd within the Democratic Party and a "sanctimonious hustler" to quote Gore Vidal's unforgettable phrase.Look at the way he took the side of the Accounting industry lobby during the Enron scandals and screwed ordinary people out of their retirement savings.

He has forfeited all rights to pose as a Democrat. In Winston Churchill's words, he is a sheep in sheep's clothing. Joe, do us all a favor. Go join your soulmates in the Republican Party and listen to their lies all day long. In the party of John Kennedy, Harry Truman, Martin Luther King and Bill Clinton, you have no place.

Since the stinking Media keeps supporting Lieber-smuck, why don't we do this:

1) write to papers and say, we're sick of you supporting this non-runner nobody that noone in our party wants, so if you give him coverage, then, every time i see his smirky face I will not buy your paper for a week.

2) what other forms of boycott can we think of? these papers, these people don't care what we think, all they care about is $$$.

We have to show our power as consumers, because, when it comes to Joe, that's all these people care about.

The objective here is to reduce his continued name recognition boost, because that -- and a false idea that he is like Gore -- is truly all he has going for him.

When one of the top-ranking Democrats and the most recent Democratic Veep Candidate is lashing out HARDER at a solid base of progressive Democrats than he attacks right-wing Republicans that shows what a debacle this party is becoming.

Lieberman has bought into the propaganda. Lieberman you fool…It was “left-wing” government that gave us: Truth in Advertising Laws, Fairness in Housing Laws, Product Safety, Elimination of a 70 hour work week, eradication of slavery, Jim Crow and child labor, voting rights for women, environmental protections, GI Bill, Marshall Plan, TVA, removal of rat shit in our meats, etc., etc. ad nauseum….
