U.S. Soldier Killed in Baghdad Explosion (NEW)
BAGHDAD, Iraq - A roadside bomb killed one U.S. soldier and injured three others Saturday in an explosion near the Ministry of the Interior, the U.S. military said.

U.S. soldiers blocked off the site of the explosion, which had targeted a passing convoy, witnesses said. Helicopters circled overhead, and one took the wounded to a combat hospital.

1. Same headline different day.
On a side note when it comes to G.W. Bushs death I am sure there are some here who will tell us we have to respect him because he was human, a husband, & a father.

The Shameful Cowardly CHIMPANZEE is going to France tomorrow. I hope the press and public ignores the BASTARD

HE is NOT MY SYMBOL of Amerika--- and not at all Representative of the men in my family who actually served in the last 6 Amerikan wars simce 1917.

To the French people who see the COWARD I say

4. My condolonces
Watched PBS tonight. The talking heads were concluding that it had been a successful week for Mr. Bush and that things had gone well in Iraq. The smoke hadn't cleared from the footage of the charred vehicles. You could see the marines carrying off bodies. You could smell the death right through the tube.

And the talking heads insisted it was a good week. I got a sense that maybe their hearts weren't in it, that at some level they knew they were acting phony. I hope to God their hearts weren't in it--but who am I to judge? Is it so bad to die for a lie? Worse than dying for a fool? A psychotic delusion? An intellectual fad? A book, revered and fetishized, as the world it represents exceeds its finitude?

Oh, there were signs. There always are. Now I watch media tv with the express purpose of seeing the punditry flinch at their own thoughts, gag on their own words. Not much, a glance, twitchy finger, sagged shoulders--Ah, yes, the weight of the world, or a guilty conscience, or the posture of the downtrodden. It's an unmistakable slump. Do I delight in it? No, not even in being subversive. It's like eating stale bread and being glad you're alive--a dear, dear punishment, or penance, as you will.

So, my condolences to the friends and the family of the soldier who was killed Saturday. Surely there are people in this country who deserve that kind of sacrifice.

6. He may be number 824, if this link is current
Maybe a DU'er knows more about this link than I do. I found it at DU in a post:

http://www.icasualties.org/oif/

Eight hundred twenty four is 824 too many. God only knows what the real number is, anyway.......

Very, very sad. Why was it o.k. for him and all the others to suffer and die? Were they born to be wasted? Are they expendable? Are they less important than any of us?
