Kerry suspends campaigning
http://www.salon.com/news/wire/2004/06/06/kerry/index.html

June 6, 2004 | BOSTON (AP) -- Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry said Sunday that he was suspending "overtly political" campaigning in the coming days in observance of former President Reagan's death.

...

"We're going to suspend any sort of overtly political rallies, events like that," Kerry said. He added that he would probably still have private meetings with advisers.

Kerry spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter said the campaign would determine later in the day how long Kerry would observe Reagan's death and which activities he would cancel, but he would not pull his campaign advertising.

1. WHY?
WHY? WHY?

:wtf:

I DO NOT understand. The man was 93 years old -- is it really such a big deal? Didn't we all know it was coming? Can't we just say, he had a long, pampered life, rest in peace?

This election is too important for that. People's lives are at stake -- young people, who should have futures ahead of them, who should have a chance to live as long as Raygun.

10. Stepping over Raygun's death would be too inflamatory
The ever-so-important swing voter and "Reagan Democrats" would be too enraged if Kerry politicked at this time.

16. Whatever
People who would not vote Kerry simply because he didn't stop campaigning now for Raygun wouldn't vote democrat anyway.

3. Quite smart, I think
The canonization of Reagan will reach fever pitch this week and, regardless of the reality, the fawning adoration heaped upon RWR will make anybody else (either in office or running for Presidency) look quite sick.

George probably won't have the luxury of disappearing. Let's hope he has lots of sputtering petulant public appearances during the next few days.

12. I agree...
...since Bush's attack ads on Kerry have been playing all morning on CNN, in between the Reagan accolades (many of which note - right or wrong - that Reagan wasn't a dirty campaigner... :D)

14. can you (meaning the press) say
October Surprise?

I believe that while Nixon's crimes during the election were reprehensible, at least he wasn't engaging in conversations with the enemy while hostages were being held.

7. Between D-Day and Reagan - who would notice Kerry anyway

At least reagan didn't die during the democratic convention of the week before the election. In a week he'll be forgotten.

9. Kerry Is Counting On Dimbo
To shoot himself in the foot.

Kerry won't capatialize on the death but you can bet your last dollar that Dimbo will try. Shrub has nothing to lose while Kerry does.

13. Yes Why ?
They are using this as a campaign issue, They are using it to slam Kerry on all their boards.

I guess it shows where the real “Class Act” resides.

15. Yes but it will backfire to help Kerry in the long run ...
Sure, let the right wing radicals have fun. However, each time GWB gets up to praise Reagan, he also demonstrates what an uncaring shill of a President when compared to a man that considered "the great communicator."

This will be fun to watch. Suggestion: Notice how GWB often brings notes but NEVER focuses on them OR the teleprompter. This is a true embarrassment and, I believe, the first President in the history of the USA who must have his speeches "audio fed" to an nearly-invisible earpiece in GWB ear.

No I don't like noticing this because this man is an embarrassment to our country. Gosh, November can not come quick enough for me. ;)
