Amtrak Train Searched After Report of Passengers Acting Suspiciously
The Associated Press
Published: Jun 7, 2004

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) - An Amtrak train on its way to Washington was stopped and searched Sunday in western Maryland after U.S. military personnel on board reported suspicious activity by two men, officials said.
Barry Maddox, an FBI spokesman, said the agency had found no cause for alarm. No charges were filed against the men, who weren't identified by name or nationality, Maddox said.

The two men were questioned and released Sunday night, Amtrak spokesman Dan Stessel said, with law enforcement officials deeming "them no longer of interest."

Deputy State Fire Marshal W. Faron Taylor said the military personnel on the train noticed "suspicious activity" from the men. Taylor said one of the men appeared to have an object concealed beneath his clothing.

About 200 people were ordered off the train, Taylor said. He said no explosives were found.

Stessel said trains are stopped because of similar reports about once a week, although passengers are not usually detained.

2. Our pitiful Amtrak
at least one vital transportation industry had the foresight to make themselves a dilapidated target of low distinction and few temptations.
