Ranchers call for BSE testing
High River, Alberta - Several hundred farmers and ranchers are calling for compulsory cattle testing to help them through the BSE crisis.

The newly-formed Beef Initiative Group believes governments should stop concentrating on opening the border.

Organizer Cam Ostercamp says compulsory testing of every cow for bovine spongiform encephalopathy would help restore consumer confidence and open up new markets.

by the fucking FDA of all places. The smaller ranches that actually raise their cattle without feeding them rendered cow meal want to test all their herds for the disease because they have relationships with Japan. But rather than allowing these independent operations to test, the FDA won't hear of it. See, big beef doesn't like the idea of testing cattle for BSE one bit. So they're keeping small operations from establishing that their meat is safe. It's fucking pathetic.

2. Is there any more news
From the processor in the US who set up a lab just to do these tests? I read somewhere that his lab was shut down via FDA - even though he could justify testing every animal at a cost of around $12.00 for each head....vs the government cost of over $200/head.

To me this smacks of government protecting big biz rather than product safety for the consumer.......

3. But that's what the Imperial Amerikan Executive Agencies are for!
You must be confusing them with their counterparts from the Old American Republic.

Though that nation no longer exists anymore, it may still be restored.

4. Not the FDA, the USDA
And the fact that those two agencies operate independently of each other on issues like this is but one part of a very large problem...
