Poll: Voters Say Iraq Didn't Merit War

LOS ANGELES - A majority of American registered voters now say conditions in Iraq (news - web sites) did not merit war, but most are reluctant to abandon efforts there, according to a new Los Angeles Times poll.


Voters are increasingly concerned that Iraq is a quagmire America cannot escape, and they are doubtful that a democratic government will be established there, according to the poll published in Friday editions of the Times.


Fifty-three percent of respondents said the situation in Iraq did not merit war, while 43 percent said war was justified. When the same question was asked for Times polls in March and November, the numbers were precisely reversed.


But less than 20 percent said America should withdraw its troops within weeks, and 25 percent said the U.S. should set a deadline for pulling out.

I wish I could revel in how right we were - the problem is, we are all in the same boat together and we can't gloat.

Unfortunately they didn't listen in the first place. It takes a shitload of bodies to show the mainstream public what we were saying from the get go.
I am not one to gloat, and this is nothing to gloat over, but at least people are opening their eyes. Now we just have to find the best way to clean up the asshole's mess.

12. This is precisely why Junior rushed in the way he did..

he counted on the people's reluctance to "leave Iraq" once he got us there.. people do not like their loved ones dying for nothing, so the tendency is to overstay, and try to make it somehow "worthwhile". Intelligent people knew that Vietnam was a huge mistake, as early as 1964, but instead of quitting then, they carried on until 50K plus soldiers, and millions of indigenous people died.

Junior counted on the fact that we are reluctant to leave things "unfinished".. he knew that if we had real facts BEFORE we went blundering in, we would have told him NO..

He's like the teenager who does something that he knows his parents would never approve of, so he just does not tell them he's going to do it.. Of course when things go predictably awry, he's right there to ask them for help in getting out of the mess..

He's no "grown-up".

2. the literacy level ..in this country it is horrific..
Nonetheless, I am still shaking my head in sadness at how easily people are duped and it infuriates me as to what the educational system in this country has wrought. Keeping people illiterate, even at a barely functioning level, allows for easy manipulation and sound bytes.
I also want to grab the corporate media by the arse and shake them.
They have blood on their hands , at the highest level.
The other day I watched an interview with a young man in Tennessee, and when asked if he thinks the war in Iraq was justified, he stated
"I dont question authority or the government".
My god! Have so many people been brainwashed that they meekly succumb to the authority and power that they dont realize, even for one split second, that THE PEOPLE ARE THE GOVERNMENT???
The elected (and one non elected) politicians are working for us! They are OUR servants, the servants of the people, for christs sake, not the other way around.
sigh and double sigh.
Bring the troops home and frog march those SOBs out of OUR White House.
