U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq - 825 U.S. service members have died

As of Thursday, June 10, 825 U.S. service members have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq (news - web sites) last year, according to the Defense Department. Of those, 607 died as a result of hostile action and 218 died of non-hostile causes. snip

Since May 1, 2003, when President Bush (news - web sites) declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 687 U.S. soldiers have died — 498 as a result of hostile action and 189 of non-hostile causes, according to the military's numbers as of Thursday.

In Vietnam, the deaths were averaging about 950 casualties a MONTH.

during the first two years of conflict, the average death toll was way lower than it is in Iraq today. By the time we get to the fourth or fifth year of this conflict, you might be seeing levels like in '68 and '69.

Just last week as you will remember ABC had in a headline that 600 had died* as the result of W&Co.'s decision that EVERYONE tried to tell them was a bad idea.

*qualified in the articel as combat deaths.
