Work under way at Democratic convention site after police end picketing

http://www.boston.com/dailynews/163/region/Work_under_way_at_Democratic_c:.shtml

"Construction vehicles rolled onto the site of next month's Democratic National Convention after picketing police officers on Friday took their fight from the FleetCenter, where they had blocked work for three days, to City Hall."

"The union, which has endorsed several Republicans in the past, has a history of generating headlines with its protests."

I am telling you, the picketing by the Boston police patrolmens union has been completely partisan - they are trying to make the Democrats look bad. That effort is second to any concern they have about a contract. The mayor has tried to negotiate with them, and the scoff at his offers.

A judge stopped them from harassing workers into the site - and immediately workers went to work.

2. Republicans Really Are Slime
I had a feeling this strike was politically motivated, but it didn't seem to make sense 'cos Unions are usually pro-Democrat.

3. Patrolman's Union is conservative, endorsed Bush #1 in 1988
much to the embarrasment of home town Dukakis. They did however endorse Kerry in '96 vs Gov Weld - but don't be surprised if Rove manages to snag their endorsement and announce it right at convention time. By the way the area around the Fleet Center looks a bomb exploded right there. It's a real mess and I doubt it will look much better in July. Coming to Boston was a mistake and I've been saying that since they announced it.
