The three Americans killed or kidnapped by Islamic radicals in Saudi Arabia in the past week were likely selected as targets many days or weeks in advance and singled out because of their work as military contractors, U.S. and Saudi officials said Sunday.

Although Johnson was employed by Lockheed Martin, the telephone number on his business card indicated that he worked at the Riyadh headquarters of Advanced Electronics Co., a Saudi technology firm that manages a number of defense contracts for the Saudi government.

Advanced Electronics was the employer of Kenneth Scroggs, another American, who was gunned down by three assailants as he pulled into the garage of his Riyadh home Saturday afternoon, Saudi officials said.

A third American was fatally shot in his Riyadh home on Tuesday after leaving the Riyadh office of Vinnell Corp., a Fairfax-based subsidiary of Northrop Grumman Inc. Robert Jacobs, 62, worked for Vinnell on a project to train the Saudi National Guard. Seven Vinnell personnel were killed in May 2003 in a suicide bombing of a residential compound for Westerners in Riyadh.

Bethesda, Maryland-based Lockheed Martin, in a statement posted under the name of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Vance Coffman and President Robert Stevens, said ``the full attention and resources of this corporation are committed to support efforts to secure Paul's safe return.''

these are not random acts - that the local populations know who is who and who they work for and what those corporations mean to their countries.

These high profile corporations have endangered the lives of their employees by their profiteering and callous way of dealing with the cultures that they operate within.

The "our guns are bigger than your guns" mentality has done nothing to make this world a safer place.

The continual lack of regard for humanity has a way of circling around and biting one's ass.

Perhaps the wording was not clear. What I said was that I am agreeing with the original premise (not your 'inside job because they knew too much'--if that was the case, even I'd be shot for knowing that much and I am a nobody), that these people were specifically targetted for their ties to certain sections of the US & Saudi official establishments. There is, in the peninsula, the opening stages of a revolution against the latter two entities; and so far, they're winning.
