Frist Among Senate's Wealthiest Members
By JIM ABRAMS, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - With one blind trust valued at between $5 million and $25 million, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist isn't in politics for the money. The Tennessee Republican also has myriad holdings, including real estate and part ownership of Hot Hits, Inc., a Nashville music recording company.

Frist, a heart-lung transplant surgeon whose family founded one of the nation's largest for-profit hospital chains, also reported two other blind trusts each valued in the $1 million and $5 million range. These assets were reported as part of financial disclosure forms released by senators on Monday.

Frist's wife, Karyn, and his three sons each had blind trusts worth more than $1 million. The surgeon's sons listed holdings, outside the trusts, included small interests in Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and fast-food vendor Wendy's International.

Blind trusts are used to avoid conflicts of interest. Assets are turned over to a trustee who manages them without divulging any purchases or sales and reports only the total value and income earned to the owner.

1. I met Frist at a meeting in DC last month - He is as shallow and lacking
in knowledge as anyone I ever met.

He knew -of course - the bias of the group I was with - so he goes into a story about how as an act of faith in God he began in 80's to go to Africa to a school without water/elect and to use that school in the summer when school was out as a hospital to bring Medical care to the area, and that now - about 20 years later - he is still doing his summer trip to the school - as an act of faith in God - and noted that the school still has no water or electricity.

Everyone in the crowd kept a straight face - no reaction - as we moved on. I hope he understood that most of us know of his wealth, and wondered why he could not spring for a few thousand for a well and generator and a container to hold fuel - or maybe just 50,000 for a solar farm to light up the whole region.

I just do not understand the GOP mind.

3. Of course he wouldn't spring for a well and generator
that way he can still go around telling people what a martyr he is for going someplace without water or elec.

7. Your 'well' story reminded me of several factual stories i personally know
Edited on Mon Jun-14-04 02:21 PM by dArKeR
My Taiwanese girlsfriend's father, he was born in China, went back to visit his rual town when the Communists started allowing some Taiwanese to visit China, 1991. His town was also as you describe above. He purchased the equipment and paid for the labor to have it installed, water, in a central location in the town. Then he went back the next year and extended the pipe service to several key locations. I can gurarantee you my girlfriend's family had no money. Their income in Taiwan would be well below America's poverty level but somehow he scraped the money together.

She told me of other Taiwanese who had done the same thing in their home towns in China which the Communists did nothing/spent no money to improve their hardships.

There was just a story on MSGOP stating that over 30 million Chinese live without enough food to eat. North Korean style.

Anyway, girlfriend told me that her Dad was treated like a King when he'd visit the town. He felt good doing it for people who had nothing. And I'd feel good too!

Getting back to Frist with his millions. I honestly believe his kind people are EXACTLY what God would call 'Scum of the Earth.'

10. I'll bet Kerry could outlast him in a poker game
Kerry has nearly a billion dollars at his disposal if he really needed to call someones hand. Hell, I'd be quite happy with just one million dollars...I could retire. It would be nice to limit congress seats to normal people that have actually worked hard for a living.
