Edwards promotes Kerry during visit to Carol City

Sen. John Edwards stumps for Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, drawing a standing ovation amid speculation he could be Kerry's running mate.

North Carolina Senator John Edwards spoke at a Baptist church in Carol City Sunday morning, stumping on behalf of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, the man who defeated him in the primaries.

Edwards has been campaigning and raising money for Kerry for months, raising speculation that he is angling to be Kerry's running mate.

Edwards adapted his ''Two Americas'' speech from his unsuccessful presidential campaign to address the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Carol City, a mostly black congregation which draws parishioners from both Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

''There are two different public school systems in America. It's been 50 years since Brown vs. Board of Education decided, but we still have two public school systems and we all know it,'' Edwards said.

''With John Kerry as president, there will be one public school system,'' Edwards said, receiving a standing ovation.

Seeing those creepy thugs in the WH now is just too scary. I wouldn't mind if he chose Edwards. We need some fresh new blood and a voice that speaks for 21st century, not some old guard crap sprinkled with the Inquisiton . However, Edwards has got to agree to Medical MJ, for all 50 states!

8. He Was WAY Less Than Exciting Saturday Night at J-J Dinner

I was at a dinner with about 1000 Dems, Edwards was the main speaker. His speech sounded very rehearsed and sounded more like a campaign speech for him than for Kerry. (In fact I think that is what it really was!!!)

Two senators on the same ticket, especially one that has almost no experience seems like a bad combo to me.

I am still hoping for war hero, professor, and businessman Gen. Wesley Clark.

The audience seemed to love it from what I could tell from the video, BTW.

The Republicans are as made at George Bush as they can get , although they won't admit the fact, they will in the fall stay home or some may vote Democrat. North Carolina has been a state of mostly old land owners,who's land is running out the farmers hit the labor market about 1950 and worked hard keeping their farms and give building spots to their children and grandchildren, now those children and grandchildren are hurting because of Bush policies and they know that although they like to say the recession is Clintons, however for the last year you are not hearing Clinton administration had a recession going when George W. took office... I think they will be thinking about the problems with their children and grandchildren and with Edwards as V.P...the state will go democratic....

7. Edwards can definately deliver NC

A recent poll showed the NC race at a dead-heat if Edwards were the VP. As a native, I can say this is probably because NC residents tend to be pretty loyal to "their own". If someone in NC is in the news, it's front page. Not only that, SC might get a lot closer if Edwards is VP. Basically, Kerry would win.

9. Oh hell no

Edwards could not even win an election in NC if he were running for Senator again. There is no way Kerry will pick him for VP. Kerry will pick someone from one of the 17 contested states - and that is not us. Maybe if Edwards does enough sucking up, he can finagle a position in a Kerry admin though.
