Senior Official Resigns From Energy Dept.
Assistant Energy Secretary Jessie Roberson, who headed the environmental cleanup program at the department's nuclear weapons sites, resigned yesterday, citing a desire to spend more time with her family.

Roberson's accelerated agenda for cleaning up weapons sites has been criticized by some state officials and environmentalists as an attempt by the Energy Department to scale back cleanup standards and saddle states with more of the highly radioactive waste.

Her resignation is the third by a senior Energy Department official closely involved in nuclear waste cleanup or environmental management in just over two months. Undersecretary Robert Card, the department's No. 3 official, who was closely involved in nuclear waste issues, and Assistant Secretary Beverly Cook, who reported to Card and was in charge of environmental and health management at nuclear complex sites, resigned in early April after tangling with Congress over a worker health issue.

According to DOE spokesman Joe Davis, Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham told Roberson that, in three years at the job, she had "fundamentally changed the management" of the waste-cleanup effort.

3. Can't they come up with a new line? Does anyone know why
so many rats are jumping ship at DOE?

20. DOE contractors at the Hanford site are probably the most corrupt ...
... imaginable. Cooked books, faked "science," labor abuses, bossism, health cover-ups, you-name-it. If the other sites (Los Alamos, etc.) are anywhere near as bad (as I'm told they are), the DOE is being raped of taxpayer dollars to the tune of billions every year.

2. Hmmmm.....
Are they missing some WMD and don't want to be held liable for it when the * hits the fan and those that will soon be discovered in Iraq turn out to be made in the US and installed since the occupation?

Something is definitely ripe and they are falling like flies there!

4. Family Time
I'm really concerned that so many members of the administration are not spending enough time with their families. It's really a shame.

6. Repug families are a needy bunch, aren't they? Isn't this unpatriotic?
I mean, how unpatriotic of them: they are counterproductive to the dedication and love for the country that repugs are supposed to show...

8. Too much stress on the job...
These folks are working too hard. Maybe they should just let it all out. Fess up to all the lies. They'll feel much better. It'll add years to their lives....and ours.

I'm just so impressed with their commitment to their loved ones...lol!

And in their spare time, I certainly hope they get inspired to write a book about their wonderful experiences in the Bush regime. Especially about such timely topics as Cheney's energy committee, etc.

14. Lots of resumes going out now from politcal appointees, I'm sure
they're all expecting to be unemployed come Jan 2005, or at least hedging just in case. I'll bet we'll see a flood of evacuees over the summer if they feel the water level rising in the boat.
