Top car company executives in the Motor City and across the country are putting their money behind President George W. Bush.
Through April, General Motors employees nationwide, most of them high-ranking executives, gave the Bush- Cheney campaign almost $122,000, compared with $7,250 for presumptive Democratic nominee John Kerry.
Ford Motor Co. employees gave just more than $63,000 to Bush and just $5,500 to the senator from Massachusetts.
DaimlerChrysler AG officials donated nearly $18,000 to Bush, and Kerry got nothing, according to an analysis of campaign donations of $200 or more by the Virginia-based Dwight L. Morris and Associates tracking firm.
The Bush campaign also got large contributions from executives in Michigan's automotive supplier sector. For example, Lear Corp. employees donated $25,000 to Bush's campaign, and Delphi Automotive executives have contributed nearly $30,000.
