Al-Qaida may 'reward' American president with strike aimed at keeping him in office, senior intelligence man says

A senior US intelligence official is about to publish a bitter condemnation of America's counter-terrorism policy, arguing that the west is losing the war against al-Qaida and that an "avaricious, premeditated, unprovoked" war in Iraq has played into Osama bin Laden's hands.

Anonymous, who published an analysis of al-Qaida last year called Through Our Enemies' Eyes, thinks it quite possible that another devastating strike against the US could come during the election campaign, not with the intention of changing the administration, as was the case in the Madrid bombing, but of keeping the same one in place.

"I'm very sure they can't have a better administration for them than the one they have now," he said.

He take orders from him. Bin Laden wanted US military out of Saudi Arabia, and bush* pulls them out. Puts a bunch of them in Iraq, where the now deposed Saddam was holding down the Islamic fundamentalists along with everyone else. Bin Laden must've been dancing for joy.

Oh, and all the nuclear power plants in Iraq got left unguarded.

Oh, and Ms. Plame was outed, rendering her network in tatters. Her network tracked the movements of dangerous elements terrorists would want for weapons.

Is to polarize.
I don't think that the attack in Spain was to defeat the government. I think that it was to keep them in power. In my opinion, where it went wrong was that the government tried to claim someone else was responsible and they were outed.
The ruling party was ahead in the polls at the time.
When I saw the report, the first thing that came to mind, was their intent to manipulate the election by provoking a reaction.
I think that we are very lucky with the result in Spain because it gives us a reference point.

So while the big lies about the war are exposed to the light, the Bush team is quietly working in the shadows-chipping away at programs for veterans, the young, the old, and the poor-funneling every possible dollar into their giant war machine so it will eventually end up in the pockets of friends and family. That is compassionate conservatism at its best.

Bush could not possibly answer one unscripted question about ANY issue. Not one. He approaches this job just as he has everything else in his life - slack it off, let Poppy and his friends bail him out. IMO Ben L can only succeed by polarizing things. As soon as one steps back and analyzes things then he and his like will be defeated.
However, it is very scary when it appears that things are polarized.

CAIRO (Reuters) - A group claiming to have links with al Qaeda said on Wednesday it was calling a truce in its Spanish operations to see if the new Madrid government would withdraw its troops from Iraq, a pan-Arab newspaper said.
In a statement sent to the Arabic language daily al-Hayat, the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades, which claimed responsibility for the Madrid bombings that killed 201 people, also urged its European units to stop all operations.
"Because of this decision, the leadership has decided to stop all operations within the Spanish territories... until we know the intentions of the new government that has promised to withdraw Spanish troops from Iraq," the statement said.
"And we repeat this to all the brigades present in European lands: Stop all operations."
Skepticism has greeted previous claims of responsibility by the group for attacks in Turkey and Iraq. U.S. officials say its links with Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network are unclear.
An unrelated videotape of a man describing himself as al Qaeda's European military spokesman also claimed responsibility for the Madrid bombing, saying it was in retaliation for outgoing Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar's domestically-unpopular support for the U.S.-led Iraq war.
In a shock election result three days after the Madrid bombs, Spain voted in the Socialist party, which has since said it will probably withdraw its troops from Iraq.
"The Spanish people... chose peace by choosing the party that was against the alliance with America," the statement said.

The statement said it supported U.S. President George W. Bush in his reelection campaign, and would prefer him to win in November rather than the Democratic candidate John Kerry, as it was not possible to find a leader "more foolish than you (Bush), who deals with matters by force rather than with wisdom."

"Kerry will kill our nation while it sleeps because he and the Democrats have the cunning to embellish blasphemy and present it to the Arab and Muslim nation as civilisation."

"Because of this we desire you (Bush) to be elected."

15. Back when the 911 bombings happened, I told everyone all Bush is going to

do is stir up more trouble. He knows nothing different. He has no

Another attack with Kerry leading by 4 or 5 points, and the Bush team has a whole new message to use: "We can't be just like Spain. If you vote for anybody other than Bush, you're letting the terrorists win."
