Security is cited in deportation case
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/20040619-9999-1mc19hasan.html

Citing national security concerns, an immigration judge yesterday obliged the government and barred the public from the deportation proceedings of a Saudi national described by authorities as having ties to two Sept. 11 hijackers.

The American wife of Hasan Saddiq Faseh Alddin, a handful of his friends and several journalists filed out of the courtroom after the ruling by Judge Anthony Atenaide. The judge said he was compelled to close the hearing because "disclosure of certain sensitive information would damage national security or law enforcement interests."

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested Alddin, who lived in Vista, on May 27, ostensibly because two misdemeanor battery convictions in 1998 and 2000 have put his legal-residency status in jeopardy.

He was jailed without bond, and the government has since argued that he represents a threat to national security.

...more...

The last line in this article is very unnerving -

"He's a cool guy," said Nabil Al-Deiri, another friend from the Vista mosque. "It's really concerned us. If they take him, we wonder, when are they going to come for us too?"

3. Martin Niemoller wrote it
They came for the Communists, and I didn't object - For I wasn't a Communist;
They came for the Socialists, and I didn't object - For I wasn't a Socialist;
They came for the labor leaders, and I didn't object - For I wasn't a labor leader;
They came for the Jews, and I didn't object - For I wasn't a Jew;
Then they came for me - And there was no one left to object.

4. I am more concerned about secret criminal proceedings,
but if they really had something on this guy, wouldn't they be arresting him, instead of deporting him?
