Rocker Ted Nugent takes aim at Illinois 'wimps'

Associated Press
Published August 12, 2003

SPRINGFIELD -- Rocker Ted Nugent called Illinois residents "spineless, apathetic, embarrassing wimps," just hours before performing at the Illinois State Fair.

Nugent, known for the song "Cat Scratch Fever," made the comments Monday during a radio show on WJJG-AM hosted by John Cox, a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate. Nugent said Illinois residents fail to reach out to their elected officials.

"I get to feel the pulse of working-hard, playing-hard America," Nugent said. "And right now one of the most embarrassing, and I believe grossly irresponsible regions of apathy, is right now listening in Illinois. Illinois people have become so sheeplike. How many people listening right now have called their senator or congressman or governor?"

Just because we mopped the floor with the Illinois GOP last November doesn't mean you have to be sore about it.

12. Reminds me of Spinal Tap
when they were playihng a state fair. They not only spelled their name "Spinal Pap" on the marquis but the headliner above their name was a puppet show!

4. He's got nothing
Edited on Tue Aug-12-03 03:18 PM by zekeson
He is musically uniteresting, politically dense, and is reduced to playing state fairs with 30 year old "hits" that were designed to appeal to 14 year old boys. oh, my, his words sting...

Go kill some endangered species with your bow and arrow, mullet boy.

on edit - uninteresting, that's UNinteresting

14. nope
I was a teen then and didn't understand why my friends thought his stuff rocked. I do, however, like Tom Robbins. When Jitterbug Perfume came out I bought it and photocopied the entire thing to send to a friend who was overseas studying.

The appeal of Ted? Can't imagine - it must be the family values thing:

I'm gonna get a little talcum
I'm gonna borrow it from Malcolm
Yeah you look so good baby I'm startin to drool all over myself
I got the droolin', droolin', get all wet, salivate, salivate
I got salivate late, salivate late, salivate late
Got salivate, salivate, salivate, salivate, heh heh heh
Yeah you look so good baby, I like it, I like it, I like it
You know what I been talkin' about honey
It's a nice dance, we gotta a nice dance goin' here
Now what you gotta do, I'll tell you what you gotta do
You got to pretend your face is a Maserati
It's a Maserati
It's a Maserati
It's a gettin' hotty
It's a Maserati, Maserati, Maserati
It's a fast one too man, that thing's turbocharged
You feel like a little fuel injection honey?
I'll tell ya about it, I'll tell you about it
I'll check out the hood scoop
I gotta get that hood scoop off, shine and shine and buff
I gotta buff it up, buff it up, buff it up, buff it up, buff it up,
Yeah, shiny now baby, heh heh heh
You've been drivin' all night long
It's time to put the old Maserati away
So you look for a garage, you think you see a garage
Wait a minute, Hey!, there's one up ahead
And the damn thing's open
Hello! Get in there!

21. amazing, huh?
You've missed nothing. That is just part of his song, Wango Tango, must have been about '75 or so. He was the wild man of rock in that era. Used to be in a band called the Amboy Dukes and had a psych hit called Journey to the Center of the Mind which wasn't half bad for drug tinged rock of the era. Then, he started being a rawk guitarist solo act that specialized in misogynistic and inane lyrics like the above. His stage act included outlandish leopardskin outfits, wild hair, bulging eyes, and thrusting his guitar from his crotch. A real class act. A comic book character.

10. Ted made the audience recite The Pledge
Edited on Tue Aug-12-03 03:31 PM by AntiSmirk
I didn't read the Trib article linked to above, but our local paper here in Springfield (home of the ILL State Fair) said Ted led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. Rock on Ted, and thanks for your service to this country. Please come back next year, this time for the County Fair.

25. The Pledge?
Edited on Tue Aug-12-03 04:50 PM by dymaxia
Come ON - there is nothing more un-rock-and-roll than the Pledge. Rockers aren't supposed to have "allegiance"! Now old "bad-ass" rockers are acting like fifties boy scouts. Sheesh.

All of Nugent’s platinum albums feature Derek St. Holmes on vocals. The million sellers consist of Ted Nugent, Free For All, Cat Scratch Fever, Weekend Warriors & Double Live Gonzo.

Oh, wait, you aren't booked into a venue that large, and haven't been in a LONG LONG time!

What an idjit! It is a good thing he didn't say that in Champaign-Urbana because we liberals here take our politics very seriously.

23. What an HONOR.
I'm thrilled. There is no greater honor than to be insulted - as a state - by Ted Nugent. He didn't stop with our politicians - he blames the whole lot of us.

I guess we don't have enough militias and that type of shit for him to love us. :(

28. The World According to Ted Nugent
http://www.nocompromise.org/news/000731c.html

ON MILITARY SERVICE

He claims that 30 days before his draft board physical, he stopped all forms of personal hygiene. The last 10 days, he ingested nothing but Vienna sausages and Pepsi; and a week before his physical, he stopped using bathrooms altogether, virtually living inside pants caked with his own excrement, stained by his urine. That spectacle won Nugent a deferment, he says. "... but if I would have gone over there, I'd have been killed, or I'd have killed, or I'd killed all the hippies in the foxholes...I would have killed everybody." - Detroit Free Press Magazine , July 15, 1990

30. You know, the Right should be ecstatic that the left
(generally) wants gun restrictions.

Just think about it. They also believe that we don't believe in God.

Couple that with wanting to use a gun, and there you go.

(for those who can't quite figure out what I mean, an atheist with a gun would be more likely to kill someone since there would be no witnesses; "God sees all" - funny how that doesn't stop some of these "chamber's loaded" Christians).

at, of all places, the North dakota state fair. He was going on and on about standing up for what you believe in, then going off on The Dixie Chicks and Jesse Jackson. Way to talk out of both sides of your mouth. He opened for Alice Cooper, which was a much better show.
