Dublin Lord Mayor to attend anti-war protest
Dublin's new Lord Mayor, Cllr Michael Conaghan has declared he will attend an anti-war protest against President Bush on Friday at Parnell Square.

Speaking on Dublin's Newstalk106 radio station, Cllr Conaghan spoke of his support of the anti-war movement and his intention to attend the protest.

“I’m very, very supportive of the anti-war movement, I have been since its inception. I certainly intend to go."

IAWM plans anti-Bush poster drops

The Irish Anti-War Movement is organising a series of banner drops across Dublin to highlight their protest plans for the visit of George W Bush.

The posters read "Stop Bush- Friday 7pm Parnell Sq" and will be dropped from at 5.30pm today.
<snip>

Stop Bush posters have been banned in the city.

Rory Hearne, National Organiser of the IAWM said “Our posters are being systematically torn down by Dublin City Council."

Apparently a bit awkward, what with the City Council tearing down banners announcing an event that the mayor will attend ..

7. Thanks!

“When a man takes a farm from which another had been evicted you must shun him on the roadside when you meet him, you must shun him in the streets of the town, you must shun him in the shop, you must shun him in the fairgreen and in the marketplace, and even in the place of worship, by leaving him alone, by putting him in a moral Coventry, by isolating him from the rest of his country as if he were the leper of old, you must show your detestation of the crime he has committed”.

This type of “moral Coventry” was used in the cast of Captain Boycott, a County Mayo land agent, who was isolated by the local people until his nerve broke. This led to a new word entering in to the English language, boycotting.

<snip>
Much to the annoyance of legal nitpickers and the anti-war contingent, a number of state statutes will be bent, fiddled with or just plain ignored to facilitate the president and his minders.
<snip>

But for ordinary citizens who have no intention of confronting the CIA or sustaining an injury of any kind, they’ll find that mobile phones (cell phones) in the Shannon area will be temporarily blocked from making or receiving calls.
<snip>

However, the use of such phone-jamming technology is illegal under Irish law and ComReg, the communications industry regulator, has insisted that there are officially “no waivers,” or exceptional circumstances under which the law can be subject to re-interpretation.
<snip>

A spokeswoman for O2 added, “This is a criminal offense, and the issue should be dealt with by ComReg.”
